  1. Dearmad I used smudges technic and it fixed it good and proper! Thankyou smudge and sorry for being so long replying. I will post results later
  2. Jljhnsn Not bad. But there is room for improvement - not that I am an expert so don't take it as a dig. Overall the model has something of a square/clumpy look to it. The head shield is too thick, the legs and body are also a bit on the square side. Make it more curvey. You need to add some more details to areas where the nose horn comes out, put a ridge there to give it sme sort of mount, put some eyelids on it, add some toenails to the feet, ridges in the skinaround the top of the legs and belly (have a look at a rhino for ideas). The horns should not shine like that and need to be off-white with bump maps - like elephant tusks perhaps. As everyone else has said get rid of that bump and paint a bump map on it. It should be easier with AM 11 and the new UV mapping tools. Start with a totally grey image first then paint white and balck ridges into it. Don't be frightened of it just get in there and bash at it. There is a good tutorial in the AM 2002 Handbook by Joe Cosman. Talking of Joe, have a look at the models done by Egginton Productions to give you an idea of what you can do. I bought one meself and pulled it to peices to see how they do it - an invaluable excercise. Lastly you wanna sort out that pose. He looks off balance and needs to convey his weight on his feet more realistically. Keep plugging at it mate until it hurts and once it starts to hurt then you know your onto something :D P.S. Don't go picking holes in my Rexie :P He is only meant to be a caricature dino - not a real one :D
  3. Actually Sam being scared of heights myself (but not flying, unusually) I think it would be a nice touch if you made your character shiver when he creeps up to the edge of the path and looks down - because that is exactly what I would do! You have him creeping up VERY carefully then just peering down - a good shock shiver would give the creep added impact and make it look like a real drop. Plus if you added Shauns scratching the head or another shiver as he walks away that would give it a bit extra. Thanks for your tips BTW mate, much appreciated I shall delve into my Lango website. Do you have Jeff Lews CD on animation?
  4. Oh BIG DOGS!!! All this excellent animation is depressing me... Do you storyboard your clips and time the keyframes like Raf Anzovin using dope sheets or do you kinda make it up as you go along and mould it till it looks how you want it? Or do you use a camcorder for reference? I imaging you block out the main frames and then use sweeps to build up the motion and tweek and tweek it. I try this but I never seem to get it right - need more practice I guess or just a lack of ability... Anyway, I was feeling a distinct lack of motivation towards my own efforts but you have put that get up and go back in there - INSPIRATIONAL (mind your head don't pop). Go on give us a hint on your work method and I might give you a WHOO HOO! Oh, bugger I just did P.S. I am also amazed at the amount of time you spend on the ball man, so little for such great results. I have spent more time than that and don't get near what I'd like... Again, lack of ability I suppose P.P.S Do you do all these doodles in your spare time and the rest of the time proper work? That must be a bit of a killer stuck in front of a computer nearly all day everyday...
  5. God! I thought I was looking in the mirror just then Too much beer last night Seriously, William if you are doing the modeling demo at Sigraph will this get onto the new Hash 2004 DVD? That certainly would be something worth waiting for. You have come on such a long way mate, my hats off to you
  6. Dingo, as Dearmad said I have tried it using aliased and anti-aliased edges without success. For the record I am using AM 10.5r. I think I will try the tips offered by Smudge and KenH. If I am not mistaken there was a tutorial on anti-aliasing by TinCan but from what I remember he said to do exactly what I have already done/tried. I will have another look at his helpful website. Thanks folks!
  7. Hi Hashers I have to post this cos it is basically driving me nuts, so I thought one of you lovely lot could help me try and figure it out. I have attached an image which is a comp of two separate leaf textures I am working on. Both where created in exactly the same way and applied in the same way. Yet the one on the left has the obvious halos around it's edges the one on the right doesn't. Why am I getting this? I have tried using alpha channels incorporating anti-aliased edges and non-antialiased edges - both produce the same results. I have used defringe in Photoshop to ensure there are no white pixels on the borders of both set of leaves yet these orrible 'alos won't budge… Answers on a postcard…
  8. Woooooo... slow down all of you... God, I feel like I am lagging behind big time. CP weights, Victor Navone, Shaun Freeman I can't keep up, I'm geting too old!!! Never mind. I guess I'll just sit back and watch Sam's great work on Kevin (I am assuming he's based on Kevin from Kevin & Perry?). In fact I might start doing this meself on one of my urchins... Alf where are you... come ere you little bleeder... you gonna have some MAJOR surgery... what da ya mean will it hurt... just do as your'e told... stop figiting...
  9. Oooh… and how many patches in that? Don't envy you trying to rig and animate this baby mate But I do envy your modelig skills Nice peice of work William. Oh, and I REALLY don't envy you when it comes to texturing this mutant either
  10. Oh my god, that starting to look like a heavy model William... I don't envy you there (well, a little bit). Hope you gotta fast system. It's looking good and it's gonna be interesting to watch you rig this monster let alone animate it... again, I don't envy you there but it certainly looks challenging
  11. Right, thanks for the comments guys - I appreciate them all. It was a bit unfair of me not to have sent the whole of the flick cos this new version shows the camera zooming in. It's still a bit stiff. One thing I am striving for is to make my motions as fluid as possible. Yes, as much as I tried, he still looks like he is skidding. But the main object of this flick was to get back into animating since I have now dreamt up a storyboard for a quick 'Bella Bear' show reel which I am gonna start right away. So I won't be doing anymore to this flick yet, well, maybe Anyway enjoy! As usual all comments appreciated. Rexiewake3.mov
  12. Some of you have probably seen this before but I decided to finish/polish it up somewhat - boy am I rusty!!! Anyway 'ave a butchers and tell me what you think, its only the first part there are two more to follow. Needs Quicktime 6 BTW. Rexiewake.mov
  13. Gee fanks guys! I will plod on with him and get him looking right. I want him to come across as an old sage of a tree who's been around for ages and kinda knows everything - when he can remember it He's gonna feature in the next Bella Bear story, but I am gonna animate parts of the previous two stories first then get on with the third story... well, that's the plan anyway
  14. mtpeak2 Thanks for the tip! I will have to experiment with the new version I think. I am sure I have seen someone else doing fings with leaves and the likes somewhere on this forum. Anyway, I just added another shot of the tree a bit more close up. I think I O-D-ed on the Cell Turb a bit in my efforts to create a believable tree bark…
  15. Oooowwww!!! I like it mate I am looking forward to seeing more. Nice to see Hash fix your problem so quick... mind you they ain't fixed mine yet but it was a prob with 10.5... I love your Avatar too, I didn't realise it was Christopher Llyod I thought it was you anyway I never saw the flick - did it come out in the UK?
  16. Now that would be interesting Will, is all this plumage done in AM 11? I must start using it if it is - does it make a nice job of leaves? Anyway - great stuff mate and even greater that you are actually doing profesional work with AM!
  17. Hi Hashers Well I am posting a model that I started a while back for the next Bella Bear story and I wanted you lot to have a look and see what you thought. I am a bit concerned about the leaves on it. Do they look a bit cheapskate being decals or should I try and do something with sprites (not quite sure how do do this)? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. I have also added a few touches to the Bella Bear website: Bella Bear Website I am currently working on a kinda show reel for my creation to breath life into me characters and I thought I would tart-up the website in the meantime. Not much has changed but any tips on what I should or shouldn't do - NO, TAKING IT DOWN COMPLETELY - would not be helpful would be nice and I will give you all a big fat kiss... Well, perhaps not...
  18. William, that looks just like my missus when I don't take my shoes off when I walk in the house Excellent stuff! I don't suppose you would like to send me an 1152 x 864 render of this picture so I could use it as my desktop? It would be quite inspiring... Pretty please?
  19. Gee fanx Dale! I sat a watched some of the flicks on Saturday morning and that's what made my mind up for me - I am gonna do a trailer! I had already put some bits ages ago but it needs ALOT of work.Once done I will post it here, possibly under AM Films if they let me Ohhhhh, I am looking forward to it already. When I am on holiday next week I will start scribbling out the next storyboard to complete the trio as well as what I am gonna put in the trailer. Cheers Mate
  20. William, lovely peice of work mate. This is really showing what can be done with AM. Although I haven't tried the new UV editor, or even AM 11 for that matter (been busy), it's something I have dreamed of seeing in AM for a while and now it has finally arrived it will make life so much easier. Looking forward to your finished textured model keep it up your are an inspiration!
  21. Yippee!!! I have finally finished the second story for 'Bella Bear' and I am over the moon! So I thought I would post another teaser for anyone who is interested. My next stage is to either get on with the final story, or just take some scenes from the previous two and breath life into the characters by animating those scenes. What do you guys think?
  22. This is uncanny… I was always goona get around to modeling how I imagined gollum in my head before LOTR came out and this is exactly how I imagined him. Although, I wouldn't have given him the musculature and made his feet bigger with highly unmanicured nails Anyway I look forward to seeing how this model develops Ectohippy - looking good! P.S. Guess I won't have to model my version of Gollum after all
  23. Crikey! It looks just like Sutton where I work... Mind you I would like one of those flying machines it would make traveling there much quicker LOL. Apart from that it's a lovely peice of work. You must have patience of a saint. Are you gonna animate it?
  24. Greasy more like! I do eat them sober too... always feel I've eaten a tub of lard afterwards... Have you slipped a slightly newer version in since I last looked? This one has the changes in I was gonna suggest It's a lovely peice of work, thing is you could do variations to it like a space picture in the background, a martian watching etc... and it could go on. Funny that you have that spaceship in woking, we have a painting of one in Bromley High Street where Jules Vern was born - I'll photograph it next time I'm there I must admit watching your piece several times has inspired me to get me finger out on me own project. I just realised that you didn't sneak a newer version in 'J' was the latest - I must have eaten too many kebabs - 'BURP' - or was it something I drank…
  25. LOL a man after my own heart! What a traditional English evening dish - a Doner Kebab
