In my quest for gainful employment, I'm working on another model. Here's the beginnings of it. I'm sort of stuck on the wheel workings right now and I can't find any good images on the net. If anyone has anything like that, I'd appreciate it.

Nice start! Can you post some wireframes too?

I modeled a train a while back. My Webpage I used a couple of images I found on the net, plus I made up some stuff too... shhhhh

I need to finish it with textures now... :D

Keep us posted on your progress!

You know, you should get a hold of Will (or is it Noel??) at Hash. Anyway, one of the guys there is a huge train freak..uh I mean fan...

Anyway, I'm sure he (Will, Noel??) has lots of good images, and maybe places on line to see trains in action.

I'm personally more interested in building a Zephyr. Now that's one cool train.

Oh, just thought of another source. Go check out your local hobby shop, or if you have a train shop, even better. That way you could buy an inexpensive train engine (they are pretty detailed) for reference.

Good ideas guys and nice modelling Joe! I hope mine can look as good as yours.....here's the wireframe so far. The messy bits in the middle were because I kept getting a "folded patch". Weird as it worked ok on the end funnel/stack.

You might find something useful here:

If you want some reference photos or scale line drawings with side and front views, I can send you some scans from my copy of the Steam Locomotive Cyclopedia published by Model Railroader magazine.

I think that last link has some bad code in it. This link should take you there:

*Looks like a nice train Ken... but as in a few other posts recently hard to see as the model is so black. Maybe you could post some textureless images as you go along and finish with black later.

Hoping all you train fanatics (fans and freaks included of course) join forces someday and create a Virtual Railland. Maybe you can port it out to Artic Pigs and let them engines run!

Added: I may have to hang out in the Lineside area for awhile! They have some cool images of the building you'd find along the railways that might satisfy my need to build a building. I've been wanting to do that lately after I saw some doll houses that were simply but elegantly built.

nice! B) It's easier to see now that its lighter. I like the way it's looking. Do you plan on making a full train or just the cabin?

rodney- that's a really cool idea with the virtual train-yard type thing.

Thanks peeps!

Oh just the cabin...I couldn't face all those wheels.

Yeah I'd be willing to make this model available on the next cd if there was interest.....
