KingVidiot
I had a good time at Siggraph this year, but it's sad that the event has gotten smaller. Still tons of cool new tech and ideas floating about there though. I miss the days when A:M was present at the show.
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted August 19, 2015 Hash Fellow Share Posted August 19, 2015 Yup, the rise of a few companies like Autodesk to have most of the market share has made it less useful for smaller ones buy space there. Last time I went was in 2005.
*A:M User* Roger Posted August 24, 2015 *A:M User* Share Posted August 24, 2015 I wish I had gone to SIGGRAPH more. Money was always tight, and then when money was no longer tight, time was the limiting factor. Maybe I will go next time it is in LA again, although it sounds like it has changed a lot. Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted August 24, 2015 Hash Fellow Share Posted August 24, 2015 How many people attended something like that in 1985?
NancyGormezano
according to wiki: 27000 in SF, 14000 Detroit. So It was significant number. I might have also have gone to Boston Siggraph (1989, 27000) - but it's not as "vivid" an experience in my mind as the other 2 conferences. I know I was there for work at least once, and we didn't have any contracts there, so it must have been, probably was for Siggraph.
KingVidiot
My first one was 1995. Silicon Graphics was dominating the show and VR goggles (including a $50k version of today's Oculus Rift), data gloves, and haptics were everywhere.
