A friend of mine recommended this to me, it was simply amazing. I feel certain I must have seen it at one point, it looks vaguely familiar.

Its a regular over here most Christmases. There was a new version this year. The boy treble who did the theme song, "Walking in the Air", was only about 11 at the time and is now a fully fledged adult singer.Still quite high in range ! I might be wrong but,I think the original Raymond Briggs book had no dialogue in it. He also did a series of books on Father Christmas, which looked again at the tradition of him being a jolly fellow, one in particular showed FC going on his summer holidays and grumbling a bit ( lot ). Another book by Briggs called "Where the wind blows" was made into a feature film I think and was a response to the cold war propaganda of the 80's. It showed the effects of following the UK gov guidelines on what to do in case of a nuclear attack. He was a supporter of the Gov until he started to read the guidelines and researched what the results were likely to be if followed.

On a trivial point, there was a radio play version of the same book, which featured Peter Sallis ( the voice of Wallace in Aardman's W&G films ) in the lead role

Another interesting fact is that a Welsh singer called Aled Jones gets credit for singing the song on the animation but he didn't. Aled Jones sang the single music release, but Peter Auty sang the song on the original animation.

I love watching the snowman, brings back all kinds of memories of watching it at my granddads and great aunts houses at Christmas.
