Gerry Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I need a model of the Earth, or if not, the best way to decal an earth map onto a sphere. Anyone? Quote
John Bigboote Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I would give YOU the world, Gerry. GLOBE_zipped.zip Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted January 11, 2013 *A:M User* Posted January 11, 2013 Gerry I believe Jody had an excellent model of the earth with textures and all. It might have been a few years back. Steve http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showt...38&hl=earth Quote
John Bigboote Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 This is the same model and maps that have been passed around for a long while, don't even know who to give credit to. The folder and model may have some bones and personal modifications that I have made over the years... Quote
MMZ_TimeLord Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Gerry, I did several versions of Earth, along with a complete (nearly) solar system project too. I am posting the version of Earth here with 2k maps. Color maps for each month of the year. Single displacement, bump, etc. This is what it looks like, still and rotation. Rotate_640_Lossless_1.mp4 Let me know if you need higher resolution maps, mine go all the way to 8,000 x 8,000 pixels! They were pulled from NASA's Blue Marble project... check the readme in the Zip file. Jody Project_Earth__V13_2k_maps_.zip Quote
John Bigboote Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Wow. Jody's are the BOMB! Everyone eventually needs a globe model... I'd advise grabbing that for your collection. THANKS JODY! Quote

John, Thanks for that! *Blushes* I have the entire solar system modeled as well. Including scale accurate orbits, most of the satellites around the larger planets as well. I also modeled a large rotational indicator arrow. The Earth model included in this package has only 1k maps, but still good enough for a lot of stuff. Here's a quick preview fly through. Pluto jitters a bit due to precision errors I believe. I rendered a test image in V17.0e and the render as lines precision on the orbits is still funky and they render VERY thick when you get close, even when the line width is turned WAY down. Sol_Flythru.mov Here is the project all zipped up for your convenience. Sol_System_Project___Files.zip Quote

John Bigboote Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 I was just using Jody's wonderful Earth model and discovered I need higher resolution maps... here is a link if you find yourself here: http://planetpixelemporium.com/earth8081.html just download , import into A:M and switch-out the callout from the decal... easy!
