So I'm going through my gear, and I realized I am unlikely to bother putting my AMD Athlon MP system back together ( I could, but I already have 3 or 4 systems and ideally would like to pare that down to 2 or 3).

While I could use it as a rendering node, it would likely be outclassed by my more modern systems.

I have 2 Athlon 2.4ghz MP processors, a Gigabyte dual processor motherboard that supports 4gb of ECC RAM (populated with 2gb of ECC) and a Radeon x1600 Pro AGP graphics card.

I realize this gear is going on 8 or more years old ( I think I bought it in 04 but I'm not positive) so I realize I am not likely to get much for it.

It might make a good media PC or home server or you could use it for AM if you have an old single processor system from this era, it would be a decent upgrade.

Anyone interested? I would say PM me, but those aren't working. So respond to this thread with an email and I'll contact you.

Well I guess I can't say I'm not surprised to not see any interest, given how old the stuff is. I hate to just pitch it, though. And I don't have patience any more to admin more than 2 or 3 machines.

So if anyone at all is interested, let me know.

I've got a few like that too and not much I can figure to do with them. Can't even throw them out in regular trash.

Possibly some Goodwill type org might accept them.

Yeah, I was thinking Goodwill or Salvation Army, too. Problem is I have to scare up a case and power supply, hard disk and CD ROM along with a useable OS. I don't want to spend a lot (if anything) on making it a useable system. I don't know what I can realistically claim for a deduction, either. $200? $300? I don't know that I'd get that if I sold it as a system.

I can put Linux on there so I don't need to spend money on Win XP or Win 7. I think I may have a Win XP license I can use but even with patching it to SP 3 and putting AV and a firewall on it, I worry about how long it will remain useable for whoever buys it. Just based on how frequently our XP work systems get hosed with malware, I really hate to think whoever ends up buying it wil have an unusable machine in a month or two.

I don't know where you live - but around here when we want someone to haul off something, or we need to get some junk for free, we contact Freecycle

You would be amazed at the trash people want, and will take in any condition. You wouldn't have to do anything other than list it.

EDIT: this is a sampling of the listings (340ish) treasures to be found on the curbs of Cupertino today, along with listings of people just waiting for manna to drop in their lap.

I suppose I could do that. It's either that or make a media center out of it, but the BIOS won't support an HD bigger than 120GB and max RAM is 4GB so not sure it is worth it.
