My son, who is 9, has watched me over the last year and half create models with AM. I have a copy of AM installed on his computer so he can learn the software but it has been a slow process. This past week we talked about animation software and he wants to create movies now.

So we came up with something in the meantime to teach basics of animation. We have discuss ideas, script, story board, frames, key frames, in betweens, lighting, rendering, texturing etc.. and have applied it to clay models. We completed a 10 sec test video over the weekend and he is totally consummed. Instead of playing outside in the beautiful weather we are having, he wanted to creates some more clay models and start animaing them right now! So, not being the best scluptor, (was told so by my art professor in college) in the world we decided on some basic shapes and characters. So over the next few days and who knows weeks we are going to do some clay animations.

Dont be suprised if I throw one on here for critics from you animators!!

Stop-mo clay animation sounds like a great way for a kid to start animating. I'll look forward to seeing it.

As nice as A:M is I think the mental disconnect between the 2D screen and 3D animation is probably too much for most nine-year olds.

But stop-mo where you can actually get your hands on it would be excellent.

Clay animation really tested my patience when I was 12 or 13, but the little bit I filmed and then got developed came out really good. But by the time the film came back from being processed I had moved on to other things. Of course I didn't have my dad for a support system. Looking forward to seeing something!
