flashawd
Hello - my little boy broke my manuel into 2 halfes, then that turned into 3 - and the part missing is chapter 12 the pic of the 9 lip poses. Is there anywhere online of a pic of that page that shows an illustration of the poses. I see the video manual, but it doesn't show that page? Thanks - Eric
Bruce Del Porte
Use a mirror. A mirror is better than shapes on a page, you will want to look at your own lips whan you animate anyway.
Caroline
You can retrieve your entire manual in pdf form from: http://www.hash.com/2007web/reference.htm The lip poses are on p147 of TaoA:M. And more pics: http://www.3dlessons.com/tutorials/Preston...ries-54854.html If you have Stop Staring by Jason Osipa, then he does lipsync differently - (I have read about it, but not done it). Here's a sample chapter, not lipsync, but eyes, which I guess is part of lipsync too. http://downloads.gamedev.net/pdf/stopstaring.pdf
flashawd
Thank you Caroline, I knew it had to be on there somewhere.
Admin Rodney Posted August 27, 2008 Admin Share Posted August 27, 2008 Historical note of interest: If you follow Caroline's links/suggestions you'll find three names of significance demonstrating their knowledge of lip sync. All cut their teeth lipsyncing in Animation:Master. Gary C. Martin (http://www.garycmartin.com/mouth_shapes.html Keith Lango http://www.keithlango.com/tutorials/old/lipSync.htm Jason Osipa http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/047178920...cr_dp_orig_subj Another thought to consider when lipsyncing: Don't neglect to use the eyes/eye brows and body posture/poses to help convey what the character is saying. In some cases you may find you need to use very little lipsync at all. The classic example is the Muppets (and puppetry in general). Few would claim the lipsync with such characters is realistic or particularly articulate yet audiences easily get the message and never complain. I've yet to hear anyone say concerning the Muppets... "Yuck! Just look at that bad lipsync".
