SD3255 Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Has anyone had the problem where you go to "Libraries" and there is NOTHING in there? I'm on a mac g5 running 10.5, so I'm assuming its the disk. If so, what can I do? Cause I cannot follow the tutorials until I have my models, and they are not in my AM>Libraries folder, nor can I double click on the "models" tab when doing a project. HELP please? Quote
Admin Rodney Posted January 17, 2008 Admin Posted January 17, 2008 Hey SD! Give the information at this link a try and let us know if you get connected to your libraries. If you don't have a CD then... yes... its the disk. http://www.hash.com/lib/win.html Quote

mballen Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 Look in the Data folder on the CD. I think you can drag and drop the files into the Library folder in the MA folder on the hard drive of your computer. Quote
SD3255 Posted January 18, 2008 Author Posted January 18, 2008 Ok, what the hell. Now every time I try getting passed the third step on the website, it crashes. Its pissing me off. It freezes, then quits when I click on the "..." spot to put the new location of the folder. PLEASE HELP ME! Quote

Have you ever hear the joke about the guy who went to the doctor and said "Doc, it always hurts when I do this."? The Doctors reply was, "Well then... stop doing that! (sorry... poor attempt to lighten the mood ) If that step isn't working you may be able to try something else. Perhaps you can type the location in or copy/paste? The location should be: C:\Program Files\Hash Inc\V15.0\Libraries If you Double Click on it rather than select the Insert New icon does it freeze? Quote
AMkyle Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 sounds a bit like something ive encountered. i have v13 and just recently got it. then i downloaded v14 and there were no models in the library. any help. Also if ive already bought 13, how do i get v15? Quote
Admin Rodney Posted January 18, 2008 Admin Posted January 18, 2008 then i downloaded v14 and there were no models in the library. any help. Did you copy the Data file from your CD over to your harddrive? If you did then A:M should automatically show your Library content after restarting A:M. Also if ive already bought 13, how do i get v15? v15 can be ordered via Hash Inc's online store: $49 for the websubscription (full version for 12 months) $299 for the CDsubscription (full version for eternity w/ 12 months of updates) http://www.hash.com/store/ Quote

Quote
Admin Rodney Posted January 18, 2008 Admin Posted January 18, 2008 i thought i got updates for free. The free updates are only for the version you purchased. Hash Inc releases updates, enhancements and bug fixes throughout the lifecycle of each release. Generally this is 12 months but Hash Inc has been known to extend that a little. Where it can get a little confusing is that we are subscribing into the future. So if we purchase the v15 CD it might have a solid v14 release on it but allow downloads of v15 throughout the year (not for free... we purchased the subscription remember? So, the downloads are all part of the deal.) At the end of the year or end of the 12 month subscription period we either have to extend the subscription by upgrading/resubscribing or the 'freebies' end) Hope that makes sense. I must admit though that it would be a most excellent deal to purchase v12 and get v13,v14 and v15 for free! Quote
SD3255 Posted January 18, 2008 Author Posted January 18, 2008 Ok, I can't do that because I'm on a mac. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling then repeating the process that is on their website and I still couldn't get past step two... And nice joke, btw.. Quote

I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling then repeating the process that is on their website and I still couldn't get past step two... I keep saying I'm going to purchase a Mac someday. If nothing else it'd help me see what you are seeing. So... just so we are on the same page here... Checklist: 1. You have copied the contents of the Data folder on your CD to the data folder in 'Hash Inc/v15' (or whatever version) 2. You have restarted A:M Did I miss anything there/yet? Edit: You said in your first post: I'm on a mac g5 running 10.5 Oh oh. Looks like I did. I don't think the instructions for current libraries work with versions that old. I think Libraries may have changed formats back around that timeframe. While the instructions on the website I linked to should work for you too they probably won't work with current Library files. SD3255 Posted January 19, 2008 Author Posted January 19, 2008 Oh sweet. <3 I just need to download the update? *Hopes its free* Quote
Admin Rodney Posted January 19, 2008 Admin Posted January 19, 2008 Oh sweet. No. Not from v10 I'm afraid. That was over 5 years ago! But the good news is that you can upgrade for $50 less than you could have 2 months ago. Moving into v15 will set you back either: $49 (12 month Websubscription - Full Version*) $299 (CD, books, etc - Full Version*) See Hash Inc's online store for details *Note: There is no 'partial' version but people get confused if I don't specify they get the same program for $49 that they do for $299. willjay Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Going back to the original problem, I too am having the same problem with Libraries. I am running an iMac G5 with OS 10.4 and AM v.15. I loaded the program today and all went well. When opening the program, the Library panel was empty. I checked the reference to loading the Library for Windows users. As a guess, I copied the data folder on the cd and then pasted it into the Library folder of the program. Closed the program and then restarted it. Nothing had changed. All the various Data folders are indeed in the AM Library folder on my hard drive. But they are not showing up in the Library panel when the program is opened. Any ideas or suggestions? Quote

We are going to need someone with a Mac to validate here... there will be differences that I cannot account for on a PC. Just to be sure... Does your Library window look like this with "All Libraries" selected? (without the models in the library of course) Edit: Check out Steve's link to instructions for installing Libraries on a Mac above. Quote
willjay Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 OK, solved the problem. I copied the Data folder into the Library folder of AM. No go. Then I found another reference on the Forums that advised coping the Data folder onto the main AM heading itself. I did, but unfortunately forgot that I had AM running at the same time. No matter. I closed the program, reopened it and there was the entire Library in the panel where it should be. The other reference described a fairly elaborate sequence for locating where these files are, at the end of which one click should make them all available. This turned out to be not necessary. As the moderator noted, suggestions for solving these problems on Windows are not very useful for Mac users. Thanks anyway. Quote
Admin Rodney Posted January 19, 2008 Admin Posted January 19, 2008 There is an important distinction to be made here and Will helps point this out. The data files don't go in the Libraries folder. Only Libraries should go there. The reference was designed for connecting A:M to Libraries not the Data. The Libraries then in turn connect you to that data so you can access, drag and drop, double click... and store things for easy retreival. All that needs to happen for the Libraries to connect to the data is for that data to be in the proper place. As Will points out when he copied the Data into his Library folder it didn't work. Rightly so. Neither the Data nor the Libraries were where A:M needed them to be. So... the simple version: Data goes in the Data folder. Libraries go in the Libraries folder. (Unless you specifically point A:M to them in another location. Thats were those tutorials come into play.) We'll cover more about Libraries (managing them... not so much finding them!) as we go through TaoA:M this year! Quote
dblhelix Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 please bear with me, i've a download subscription and need to find the missing models as well, on Vista Home. i tried the 'Options' dialogue for all three options visible in Libraries, to no avail. good thing AM is really speedy to restart. when i open the folder 'hash inc' it shows a folder 'V15.0' when i open folder 'V15.0' it contains many files and folders. there's one called 'Data' and one called 'Libraries'. when i open folder 'Libraries' it contains one item: a file called 'Hash installed library.lbr' that weighs 2Kb when i open folder 'Data' it contains five folders: Actions, Libraries, Materials, Models, Tutorials. in the 'Models' folder there's everything i need. so now i copy the 'Models' folder and paste it? in the 'Libraries' folder located inside the 'Data' folder? or in the 'Libraries' folder located inside 'V15.0' folder? (yes i could experiment, but figured someone else might have the same problem and a quick fix is so nice, so why not have it in print here!) Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted June 7, 2010 Hash Fellow Posted June 7, 2010 when i open folder 'Data' it contains five folders: Actions, Libraries, Materials, Models, Tutorials. in the 'Models' folder there's everything i need. This doesn't answer your library question, but it looks like you haven't downloaded the full data set yet. I have 11 folders there. Quote
dblhelix Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 the full data set thought i saw a lightning but it was your firearm writing. thank you! been listening to your voice, it's tutsMonday, so thanks for those as well Quote
