DanCBradbury
In trying to make a better looking lit building, instead of using an abmience map, I made each of the rooms, threw some lights in, and here's what i got.
dre4mer
Kinda nice looking dan, does it slow the render considerably to have that many lights? -Ethan
Eric2575
Is that one light for every room? It looks really nice.
MattWBradbury
it was at 50% when I saw it and it had taken an hour, so two hours for the larger 1280X960 render. This smaller render here would have only taken 40 minutes.
3DArtZ
40 minutes.... one certainly could achieve the results without putting lights in every room.... but it does look nice.
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted October 4, 2007 Hash Fellow Share Posted October 4, 2007 since the rooms don't affect each other you could make a decal that puts that lighting pattern on the floor and walls of each room. might have to leave lights on the ground floor for the spill, but the rest of them could be ambience map decals
MattWBradbury
That's what I had thought, but probably have a Decal for each room. That way you could easily control the intensity in that room, and not affect the whole floor.

DanCBradbury
Not only is it a single light per room, it's also 2 ray casts per light. I should probably lower that to one ray cast, as it would lower the render times tremendously. But yeah, ambiance maps would definitely be more efficient, and you could even have random objects like desk shadows or figures to make it look realer, but i wanted to try something different. here's the full version if anyone wanted to take a look. There's also AO in it as well
