Smoke and Fire

Recommended Posts

Just a quick test using an animated sprite to make fire.

I have already posted this on the Movie Forum, but I'd want as many as possible to comment on it. I realize it's not realistic, but what should be different? The goal is to make it hyper realistic...;-)

[attachmentid=10770]Download the movie - Right click and Save Target As... - and set it to loop for best effect :-)

This is the animated Sprite I used:

Edit

For some strange reason it didn't work to link to attachments in other posts (it worked in the preview...)

Go here to look at the animation instead, but please post your comments in this thread.

That's really cool. The smoke trail is as good as it gets. The actual fire is something that can be used from a distance since it lacks definition. Looks like a fire in the distance at night. Thanks for sharing the prj file. Will download and check it out.

The fire thread is a great idea. Many users coming together to come up with unique solutions.

Nice fire effect, it looks like a ball of fire, of course its hard to tell at low resolution, have you rendered it out to a higher movies resolution to see its true look? I know you couldnt post it here....also the fire seems to be bright white in the center of the fire ball, I dont know what the fire effect in the movies is suppose to look like, dependes on what caused the fire, magic? lightning, and what if anything is burning.I look forward to more of your post of the fire effect.

Thanks for your comments!

Every Most sprite fire I've seen, suffers from lack of detail in the most bright parts and I don't find that particularly realistic, except for very distant shots. I haven't got a clue on how to do anything about it, though.

In this clip I certainly have more detail, but I'm not sure whether it looks like fire anymore...

Yeah. That looks a little bit much like an explosion. I think you should make actual flames, but not as distinct as many people make them. Yours has many too distinct particles, instead of indistinct flames giving off particles. GL, and great job so far! I can't imagine how you're doing this... :P I'ma nub though.

I think that last one looks more like flames than any other sprites I have seen. It just looks like a huge inferno seen from a distance to me. What kind of fire are you going for? Like a camp fire or fireplace? If so, maybe making the sprites bigger in relation to the overall size of the fire might help.
