David Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 Hi everybody, I'm 13 and got A:M about a month ago. I've gone through the tutorials and just started modeling and animating on my own. Here is my first model of "my own." I'd love to hear some feedback (yes, I know there's a lot of creasing. I'll try to fix it.) It is supposed to be an ape's head. Thanks everybody, David Quote
Admin Rodney Posted August 28, 2005 Admin Posted August 28, 2005 David, It looks like you are off and running. Good for just having A:M for a month! I cannot help but think of Will Sutton's 'Kong' when I see your ape... you've definitely got the shape right. We'd have to see more angles to say much more. If you want to pick apart Will's Kong its available online now. Perhaps you've already seen it if you got the Extra CD with your purchase. Kong by Will Sutton There are a lot of models to download and study. Following Will's splines will definitely get you going on the right path. If only I had Animation:Master when I was 13. Looking forward to seeing your updates. Keep posting! Rodney Quote
luckbat Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 Looks nice, David. Be sure to post a wireframe, too, so that the forum folks can give you more specific feedback. Quote
bentothemax Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 Hey! I'm 13 to I have had am for about 3 years as of august 24th. The face is def in the right shape, but there are many problems, i think the biggest is that everything is VERY angular, it just doesnt give it an organic look. Splines are "bendy" so make some pop out, and the lines will follow. I also suggest using porcelain, its included on the cd, but make sure you use stephen gross' correct normals plugin b4 you use the porclain. Nice job Ben Quote
luckbat Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 Porcelain's a useful tool, but it's no substitute for learning proper spline flow. That comes from experience--don't be afraid of trial & error. DWS' tutorial on making a head is a good place to start: http://www.hash.com/users/jsherwood/tutes/DWS/TOONZ/T.html Quote
markeh Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 I have to tell you I'm always suprised and impressed to find out someone is 13 on this board. I'm nearly three times their age and they seem to model, animate, and write better than I can. I must have been born in the year of the monkey. Hey, are you mocking me with that model!? Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted August 28, 2005 Hash Fellow Posted August 28, 2005 Hey, it is immediately recognizable as an ape! So far, so good! Better splining, as mentioned above, will help greatly in furthering it. Quote
