dborruso Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 Hi I am starting this thread to post all my progress about my froggy boxing game. I figure I'd do it all here to keep this forum alive and not have things scattered all over the wip forum. Let me tell you about my game. It will be a fairly simple game because I have a lot to learn. I will give it away free when I'm done. If it goes over well I will make ultimate froggy boxing that I will sell. The game will be just one round with knock out or win or lose by points. It will be a one player game with two opponents to choose from, one being harder to beat, the other easier. I dont know how long i'll make the rounds yet, maybe just 5 minutes a game. The set will have audience characters, very low poly and not many, that will react to punches and knock outs. Behind them will be a picture of more audience, just a 2d pic of frogs in the stands to add depth. It is a simple set with just an audience and a ring. I am thinking of making a trainer that holds a water bottle and when the main character goes and drinks out of the water bottle he gets energy. That is if I use energy levels I'm not sure. It may just be points based. There's just gonna be one type of punch to the body and there will be arm blocking. Thats all I'm planning on because I know I will struggle with writing the c scripts. I hope I can pull this off. I dont really know how long it will take to make this game, I'll just play it by ear. I'll be using animation master, AMXtex plugin, and 3d gamestudio. I will post how these all work out. Here is my a:m model imported into gamestudio. I will see how the textures work in a few days when i can afford to buy the full version of AMXtex. Thanks for looking . If you got any ideas how to make my game better I would love to hear them. Quote
KenH Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 Nice start. I look forward to more progress. I've plenty of ideas to add to the game, but they'd involve alot of programming! Quote
triath5147 Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 for the simple moves you plan on using for your game, check out Ambit's fight tutorial, he has scripts written for that style of fighting. Quote
dborruso Posted July 26, 2005 Author Posted July 26, 2005 Cool triath thanks! Who is this ambit and where can I find his fight tutorials? Quote
dborruso Posted July 26, 2005 Author Posted July 26, 2005 Well, after many hours of trial and error I figured out a way to get my texture maps into the game engine correctly. Apparently the maps must be square and multiples of 256. I made one map with all my textures on it then did all my stamps from that one map. Game studio does not like more than one map for a model. Here is the model in the game studio A6 engine with textures: I have a few things to straighten out now with the animation. Then on to more models. Quote
triath5147 Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 yep they can also be 32x32 64x64, 128 etc. and remember any combination of the same. You can have multiple skins in A6 but you must script them in. The fight tutorial can be found at Grimber's tutorial site I beleive, and possibly the Acknex resource tutorial site. Quote
Jin-Kazama Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 that's amazing dennis...my dream was to create a 3d game...this is realy fantastic...any help from anykind? just ask bro.. jin Quote
dborruso Posted July 29, 2005 Author Posted July 29, 2005 Thanks, that fight tutorial is great! It will be the first thing I do when I buy my license next week, because I can't add or create a new script in WED in the trial version, which I think is dumb. I may take you up on that offer sometime jin I'll keep ya posted. I'm still working on animation issues but cant do too much testing until I have the licensed version next week. Quote
triath5147 Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 by the way that skin is REALLY simple, so scaling it down to 256 would be more than adequate. Quote
dborruso Posted August 3, 2005 Author Posted August 3, 2005 Thanks Triath, I'll scale down the texture. Here's a little movie of herbie the frog going through some of his moves. The speed will be controled in the game software, i am just getting the keyframes down. I hope you like it. Herbie Moves Quote
triath5147 Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Very Kewl, but kinda stiff. Try try making him duck and sway a bit as he strafes, and when he punches, even for the jabs, try to over animate a bit. It will look much nicer in game. Quote
dborruso Posted August 4, 2005 Author Posted August 4, 2005 Thanks Triath. I added a little more groove to his move... Herbie Moves 2 Quote
dborruso Posted August 15, 2005 Author Posted August 15, 2005 Here is a little music loop for the game: http://3dfrog.com/wips/forums/frocky.mp3 Here is the bell: http://3dfrog.com/wips/forums/frogboxigong.mp3 And the sound of the crowd: http://3dfrog.com/wips/forums/frogcrowd.mp3 Quote
dborruso Posted August 16, 2005 Author Posted August 16, 2005 Here is a pic of herbie and otto going at it: I have a little problem that they cant get close enough to punch even though they have really long arms. I may have to reduce the size of the boxing gloves some i guess, even though i like them huge I'll think of something. Quote
KenH Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Coming along nicely! I can't wait to see some moves inside the game engine! Quote
dborruso Posted August 17, 2005 Author Posted August 17, 2005 Well It took me many hours to get all the animations wrapped into one game studio model. Much exporting and importing. Basically I went from A:M with AMXtex to fragmotion, where i was able to add all my animations to a model and export to game studio format, then into the engine. Well, now that I know how to do it it will be quick from now on. I think the model is facing the wrong way so I probably have to turn it sideways in fragmotion. Here is a clip of Herbie in the engine running through his animations, i have to figure out the speed, i know i want the fall to be slower, maybe like slow motion. But the rest will be pretty quick action. The quality of this clip is not too good. I recorded it in cam studio, there must be a better way. It made it look quite pixelated, but it does look nice in person in the engine. http://3dfrog.com/wips/forums/enginemoves2.mov I am happy this is working out. Take Care. Quote
Jin-Kazama Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 hi dennis....for some reasons i can't playback the movie....it shows in the browser but the image is not clear....so happy that u get rid of things and became faster now.... Quote
dborruso Posted August 18, 2005 Author Posted August 18, 2005 Here is a pick of the boxing ring. The ring was built by my friend, known here as jin kazama, and textured by me. He also built stands and stuff but i have to make frog decals to put in the seats now. Thanks Jin! Quote
Jin-Kazama Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 if i can do more than this dennis ..i will....i like how it look in 3dgs....wooooow....will be very good boxing game.....i hope u go ahead with it.... your brother jin kazama Quote
dborruso Posted August 20, 2005 Author Posted August 20, 2005 Hello Folks Someone on the game studio forum made a sample script for me and made a little video of it in action. Of course herbie won't be fighting with himself in a brick room in the game, but I think this is a really neat little sample. http://3dfrog.com/wips/forums/frogpreview.wmv Thanks to Omegattack Quote
another Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 And why .wmv file, instead of .exe at once? Quote
triath5147 Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 looks sweet, the game should be alot of fun, especially with catchy music like that lol. Quote
dborruso Posted August 21, 2005 Author Posted August 21, 2005 Here is some background in the game with animated crowd. I also put in the game music in the video. I will make more banners to put in so it is not as repititious. The background isnt as blurry as in this video in the game. I hope hash doent mind me advertising their software in my game. The other banner says jin kazama 3d and has a picture of jin's porsche. Let me know what you think. http://3dfrog.com/wips/forums/herbiecrowd.wmv Quote
dborruso Posted August 22, 2005 Author Posted August 22, 2005 I made a little site for my froggy boxing game today, just something to get people interested. I will link it from my main page. Hope you like it games.3dfrog.com Quote
dborruso Posted September 1, 2005 Author Posted September 1, 2005 I made a movie of the characters fighting inside the game. Just the test code that omegattack wrote me, but I wanted to see it in the arena. http://3dfrog.com/wips/forums/froggyboxing.wmv 1.9 mb http://3dfrog.com/wips/forums/frogboxing.mov 5 mb Quote
dborruso Posted September 1, 2005 Author Posted September 1, 2005 Yeah sandgroper Look into it. You can use the program free. You just get a little thing pop up that says have you registered but it doesnt really get in the way. Fragmotion is a little gem. And it is only 20 bucks to get rid of that thing. Happy hashing and fragging and 3dgsing! Take Care Man. Quote
Jin-Kazama Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 ALL THE BEST BROTHR............WHAT U DO IS AMAZING ME.... I'm stil fighting with 3dgs....i'm good now at bhuilding environments,,,,hehehe...who knows....maybe i would become a stage designer one day at NAMCO..... again.............ALL THE LUCK......AL THE BEST.....MY BROTHER JIN Quote
dborruso Posted September 2, 2005 Author Posted September 2, 2005 Thanks Jin! I'm glad you like it. I'm sure you're doing great with 3dgs. I look forward to working with you on our game You won't have to work for namco, because our game will do so well Quote
