From the four-hour Animation Showdown, my finest achievement in grotesque overacting so far:

Fated Phone Call! (QT 217K)

bonus animation:

Dig (QT 85K)

See if you can tell where my four hours ran out. :D

Suggestions are welcome.

There were 6 distinct pose related actions with not much going on between them. Some different camera angles/shots/moves wouldn't have gone astray either but given the 4 hour time limit I think you did pretty well - overacting or not :)

I thought this was fantastic. The quick, darting eye movements really added a lot to his thought process. (Although I'll never understand why you didn't give him eyelids.)

It might have been nice to make him more casual when answering the phone, to provide a contrast with his reaction as The News was relayed.

Oh, and don't be so stingy with the compression! (Said the cable modem whore.) :D

Thanks for watching and making comments!

Well, my hope was that he would appear to be listening during the pauses, then reacting to what he heard. But if it just looks like arbitrary poses strung together then that wasn't successful.

You're right. The one thing I changed between the contest version and this post was to make him glance at the phone, but that was a bad idea. Indifference was better.

Don't they say "If you blink, you lose"?

The file was too small... or too big?

I love overacting!
Working toward my diploma from the "Make'em See It In The Back Row" school of acting.

Hi Robert,

I guess I was trying to point out that the body appeared static whilst he was listening (or any body motion you had in there was a little to subtle)

Cheers

Great job on both! I personally like the pauses in the phone one.

If you get a chance you should add more to the end of the digging one. Each time I watched it I just wanted to see him hit the ground as the shovel suddenly moves....

Too small. Things became muy pixelated.
