Over the past week I've been working on a model for a friend to go in his Star Trek fan series, Red Squad. Anyways, I'm at the texturing stage now and figured I'd post what I have. I've beveled everything and for the most part, it's actually all one piece, at least the main hull, saucer and nacelles are.

Which is definitely giving me troubles on the Daedalus model, lots of eyeballing is involved because of this perspective issue

Yeah, before I purchased AM I watched the Duel a lot. In fact, it was one of the reasons I bought AM was that short
-
Never mind, I did some research into the matter. A shame really, was about 6 months before I arrived here so I never got to even superficially meet him
-
Forgive me here, but what exactly happened?
-
thanks Myron, those'll do nicely once I squish them some

his head and neck area are, his body is a monkey barrel, his arms are slinkies, his chest plate is like some rocket toys and stuff, not entirely sure about the bottom, though I believe he has a pool noodle at the very bottom plus some sort of space bus like toys going around his base. Fortunately the MST3K movie gives us some high quality close-ups of Tom so you can definitely tell it's one of those monkey barrels

also, I don't appear to have this duplicator wizard, where can I find it? I should probably ask the next question too which would be how do I use it to make my spring? <--figured that one out, still need the wizard though nevermind, I overcame my own momentary stupidity
-
ok, got a new question. monkey barrel texture. can't seem to find a texture on the interwebs, so now i'm looking at procedurals. anybody wanna chime in with some advice here...rob, this is your alley isn't it?
-
that will probably work. His arms are made from slinkies so that's where the spring comes into play, except of course it's very thin and tightly wound. When I'm done waiting for a render (which should be by tomorrow) I'll play with Servo some more

well doesn't AM have some sort of spring simulator/physics/thingy or something?
-
Yay, you win! I've never made springs or anything before and I'd like for them to bounce around and stuff like they would. Though I dunno why, it's only a model, but you never know if for some reason it gets animated
-
It occurs to me that this basic exercise is going to have it's difficult spot, namely his arms are made of Slinkies and I can't say I have the foggiest idea on how to make slinkies

nope...I don't even know what hookah is. To Google I go!

Just as a quick break from modeling the Daedalus, I decided to model a somewhat simpler model, any guesses?

Some more progress. Been mainly working on the hanger bay. i want to have it such that the bay doors can open and the hanger is visible on the inside, that way if I ever build some 302s or Puddle Jumpers, I can have them land on the Daedalus and whatnot Also, now that I'm content with the overall shape of the hanger, I shall bevel it in the morning!
-
Yeah, I do that now, but remember I started this in October back when I didn't even have a clue about beveling, so I gotta bevel the pieces that I didn't bevel back then
-
You could always do a full blown commentary having those who wish to participate in the commentary get together on the internet and record a commentary through the whole video. That way all the intros and things would be done at the beginning and everyone could discuss about how the whole project came together, what their contribution was etc

i have done a fair bit of timing and dialogue, so yes, I know you can get more than your name out, I'm just stating it's not going to be very in depth. Especially if you get to describing how you did something.

thanks, I'm now doing beveling along the main parts. I've used the magnitude control for some of the spots, but others pretty much require some extra splines running through it
