For him, a facile drawer, it seems to be worthwhile, but still i was baffled when he said he went back to 2D to test eye directions.

Are they not able to just move an eye target around like we do? :dontknow:

Yeah it seems like that would be something that would be present in the software, but I guess not?

Was still interesting to see a pro at work, though.

I watched the webinar today.  I presume they will post a recording later.

Something that surprised me was him mentioning needing to work around "gimbal lock".

Gimbal lock? They still have gimbal lock at Pixar? That sounds insane.

I was also surprised that the "layout" he gets for a sequence is as animated as it is.

Someone in Pixar is doing a lot of character animation that never is seen on screen.

I attended as well, I thought his technique was interesting but results in a lot of extra work, especially if you aren't already a decent 2D artist or animator.

    Still, very interesting webinar.

Here's another music-animation tie in... Disney failed to renew the copyright of "Mad Doctor"(1933) in 1961 so it got pinched for this concert poster.

Look at that line-up! At least half of those are legends. When giants walked the Earth.
I don't think anyone could put together ten acts of this stature today.

I'm not sure there are even 10 artists/acts that play actual instruments (not the mega artist category, anyway)

A day later... there is nothing memorable about the actual music.

She sings well enough but I had to play it again to recall anything about the music. The song itself has nothing compelling to retain.

It sounds like a collage of dance things we have heard a hundred times before.  In the 80s the better songs sounded different from each other and had at least one memorable hook.

There is nothing novel here... except the animation, which is the only reason to revisit this video.

Music has been stagnating since the late 90s.   There are a number of reasons:   Clear Channel owning most radio stations, prevalence of autotune/overly produced songs, artists that are primarily vocalists and do not play an instrument.   There is some interesting stuff out there but you *really* have to look for it.

  5. Snoop is not really my cup of tea, but I thought the video was well animated for what it was.  I didn't catch the profanity since the first time round I had the volume too low, I'll try to stick to more family-friendly things in the future.
