At the end of Live Answer Time today we watched a Tom & Jerry cartoon, "Tee for Two" (1945). I'm not a huge T&J fan but I caught this one because I saw a "bar sheet" for it, the initial sketch for the music, online. (See below) (Sorry about the auto-play!) The top half of a system is a frame by frame account of the events on-screen, the bottom half is where the composer (Scott Bradley) jots in what he's going to do for it. He doesn't see the film before he writes the music. He'd only get this chart and probably a visit with the storyboard. https://tralfaz.blogspot.com/2017/01/cartoon-composer-scott-bradley.html

Only v15 and later use the subscription system. The subscription won't activate anything earlier than that. For the v5-v14 era you need a serial number (found on a registration card) to install and the A:M CD to run.
-
OK, so you could still download v6 if you wanted to, but anything prior to that is potentially a pain in the butt. Would you be able to use something as old as v6 using a current subscription you bought, or would you have to have your serial number from way back when? It's sounding like the oldest practical version someone can access, and run via their current license, is v15.

Ok well guess that's what I'll have to do for LAT today. Talk to you then.

LAT... Live Answer Time
-
Sorry, what is LAT? and yes the Chrome problem was fixed using AVG.
-
The oldest installer I see on the hash ftp is "AM98" which I presume to be v6.0 If one could find installer disks one could run ancient A:M on an appropriately ancient OSes. My recollection is that I first bought a "pro"version of A:M v3 and v4 that used a dongle. I was able to install and run that when I was still on Windows 2K, but not after I went to Windows 7. V5? through v14 required a CD in a CD drive to start. That CD scheme is now disabled in Windows 7 and later. V15 was offered in a CD version but it was also the debut of the current internet activation subscription system. You can install and run anything back to v15 with your current sub.

Typing at LAT is possible but awkward. It sounds like your mouse problem is solved however. Hooray!

So I had an interesting question from someone that has an interest in CG and used the program back in the Journeyman days. He's interested in exploring prior versions of AM. I told him that previous versions are available, provided you have an active license, although I wasn't sure how far back the archived versions go and he would definitely be using the really old versions without formal support. Assuming you wanted to use Version 3 or 4 or 5, can you go back that far? Or are we limited to say, v12 as the oldest version that can still be downloaded?

Hello good evening to everyone out there, I am an old member of the AM forum absent for a long time, something like 10 years now, I moved away from 3D due to job changes, and now I want to get back into it, I have updated my equipment several times since then and I have not longer the AM program in my pc, I stayed on version 15 in fact I have the AM CD but I left the forum shortly before the CD become usefulness to start the program, could someone tell me how to reactivate Animation Master, I already changed my equipment and no longer use a CD-ROM reader, It´s a pleasure to stay here again hopefully someone can tell me how to reintegrate to AM, thank you very much in advance.

Got the Chrome issue FIXED! A friend used AVG and it found a bunch of malware and got rid of it (for now anyways) But still have a sound issue re; Live Answer time. robcat2075 see attached pic of the headset I used last time I was at Live Answer Time but had a computer with 2 ports then (headset & mic) the pic you posted of my computer here is correct but this is the only headset I have for now. I'm sure I can buy a proper headset but not before tomorrow so not sure whut to do. Thanks Fuchur I will get Firefox and try that but right now things are working again after 2 frickin' weeks of frustration & foul language.

- First suggestion: Get rid of Chrome all along and use Firefox... - Go in the task manager and go to "details" instead of only the apps view. There you should be able to finde chrome.exe or something in that direction. - If not, there is likely a program using a WebView by Chrome . Shut down all of them. Best regards *Fuchur*

I want you to be the on the machine that has the problem. Are you near a computer store? Can you get a cheap USB headset with mic? BTW When I Iook at the ports on a Beelink, the icon indicates it will take an analog mic/headset
-
True the California roosters are a spoiled bunch. But I have a sound problem. the last time I came to LIve Answer was on my old PC but now I have this Beelink mini PC and there is no microphone port - only an earphone/sound out port. I'm not sure what to do as my #2 machine isn't hooked up to the web.

Hi Darrin, Transparent objects usually need some sort of reflection going on to show they are there and to suggest their curvature. In this sample scene the TubeA and TubeB are the same, but TubeA on the left has some slight reflectivity, which reflects the skydome above the scene. TransparentTubes.prj

@Robcat Thanks for you input m8 - much appreciated. I guess you are right a lot of people get into 3D because they have ideas/concepts of their own that they want to run with which I did. I would say that only a tiny number ever achieve commercial success. The actor Roger Moore said 'Getting into acting is 99% luck 1% talent' sorta… Working on my Bella Bear project was a launch pad for me into a career as a 3D artist since that it what I have been doing since 2010 after doing the course at Animation Mentor which I know that you did too. And I have worked on a big film and a few shorts as well a a TV show and loved every minute - mostly I don't look at my project as the next 'Harry Potter' or 'Wallace & Gromit' but more just fun to get a bit or recognition for and entertain people. If you have ideas and are creative you want to create after all. I think I will just rework a few of the flicks I have done and bring them up to date which will be quite satisfying. I have already done a couple but outside of AM and reworked two of the characters. Wagons roll!

Is that the computer you never put on the internet?

Unplugging keyboard & mouse had no effect. And yes I have what you just posted as well and tried it but keeps telling me that chrome is open somewhere but it isn't. Tried the task manager to shut all chrome processes off - no effect. Pretty sure that chrome is the culprit but don't know what else to try.
