jamagica Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 I have created a great back for a seat to be used inside a vehicle I'm creating. My problem is this...What's the best way to create the bottom? (see screenshot below) Quote
MATrickz Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 haha, well thats kindof a general question. I would make it the same way you made the back, find some pictures off of google for reference! Quote
Scottj3d Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 The easiest way is to extrude. try opening the bottom and selecting the cp's and use the extrude button on the right of the modelling window. I believe it is above the lathe tool. Here is one I just did for a wip I am posting soon. Quote
jamagica Posted October 23, 2004 Author Posted October 23, 2004 When I break or delete splines on the bottom the splines connected jump to another CP because it's disconnected... Quote
Scottj3d Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 You should be able to break these splines (k) and use the cps on either side of the green to extrude. Quote
jamagica Posted October 23, 2004 Author Posted October 23, 2004 I tried what you said and came out with this (not so smooth): Quote
Scottj3d Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 Thats close. I would repeat the process but try extruding 2 times. Go back and select the vertical splines one at a time that are peaked (p) sometimes they extrude that way and round them (o) that should smooth them out. Quote
jamagica Posted October 23, 2004 Author Posted October 23, 2004 Hmmm..it looks better when I shape it up..(the sides coming up and the middel going down) to match the back...that might be the prob.. Quote
Scottj3d Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 Should'nt be too hard to duplicate the top section at the bottom with a bit of tweaking. Quote
jamagica Posted October 23, 2004 Author Posted October 23, 2004 Yeah..thanks a lot..I'll post up the finished model with texture at the end Quote
jamagica Posted October 23, 2004 Author Posted October 23, 2004 Ok...This still isn't working...I got the bottom but I'm trying to figure out the end of the bottom...I tried your idea but I couldn't get it to work Quote
ddustin Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 I usually create things like that by making an "L" the progressively extruding it across, changing the extruded portions across. You can copy sections again. It works for me. d Quote

starwarsguy Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 i think he means making the outline from the side view, and then going toi front view and extruding across how you want it tell me if i'm right Quote
ddustin Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 I create an "L" shape. Like a boxed shape. Dang it's hard to explain. It would be like looking at the seat from the right side view, and just drawing the outline, with a lot of CP's in the outline, then I switch to the top view and hit the "E" key to extrude one section. You need to make sure you set the extrude parameters under the Tools\options\units\"paste/extrude" offset, tab to have zeros in them, otherwise the sections you extrude won't be on the same plane. Extrude the shape you just made then adjust the points to create a shape.. There's a poor picture attached to show what I mean. Sorry I can't explain it better. d Quote
