detbear Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 So I have used V.18 for a long time. On my older Vista system(Never had a problem) But I switched many months ago to using my Windows 10 cpu. Suddenly this week, everytime I render, my computer cuts off randomly. This has begun to repeat over and over. I don't have time to do any R&D. Has anyone else had this issue on Windows 10? or V18? Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted August 23, 2017 Hash Fellow Posted August 23, 2017 First guess, which I have no way to test... rendering is maxing the CPU enough that it overheats and shuts down. Is the CPU heatsink clogged with cat hair? Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted August 24, 2017 Hash Fellow Posted August 24, 2017 The more I think about this the more I think something is overheating. AM v18 certainly hasn't changed recently. It might be a part starting to fail but the symptoms sound like something isn't getting cooled right. An accumulation of dust like this might impede the cooling enough to cause a failure. I didn't see this until i took off the fan. Or.... maybe a fan has just plain failed? A computer can limp along with incomplete cooling until it has to do real work and then the lack of full cooling causes a shut down. Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted August 24, 2017 Hash Fellow Posted August 24, 2017 Windows keeps a log of events that may tell why the last shutdown occurred. How to View Previous Shutdown and Restart Details in Windows Quote
Fuchur Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 Wow... that looks like dust and rust . Or is it just copper? Best regards *Fuchur* Quote
