TheToadStool Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 A friend of mine still had an old Dark Tree on His PC. As a Mac user I hadn't given it much thought but now I have access to PC for animation. Can this be made available again? That material generator looked like a hoot! thanks, Adam Quote
Fuchur Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 You can still get the dst-files here: http://www.darksim.com/ In A:M you will first have to create a material called "SimbiontAM". It can be found if you create a new material, rightclick on its Attribute and go to "Change Type To > Plugin > Dark Sim". You can than load in the dark tree materials. See you *Fuchur* Quote
TheToadStool Posted April 10, 2017 Author Posted April 10, 2017 so that app that allows one to make these materials is no longer available is my understanding Quote
Guest Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 You can't make new materials from within A:M...just tweak some parameters of existing downloaded one's. Quote
Fuchur Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 That is DarkTree 2.5 itself... can be found here: http://www.darksim.com/html/download_darktree2.shtml (you would need to compile that) or here: http://www.darksim.com/html/download_demos.shtml Can't see why it should not work, but I think it costs something. See you *Fuchur* Quote
TheToadStool Posted April 12, 2017 Author Posted April 12, 2017 Fuchur, I just want to say thank you for sharing your knowledge on this. DarkTree is on my "to do" list. I would like to figure out all these things soon. I just thought it looked fun putting together materials with a graphic interface. Seems like it should be more of a thing Adam Quote
Wildsided Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Not wanting to discourage you Adam, but I've found DarkTree materials can add some serious time to a render. If you can get the same result using textures, colour, bump, normal etc then you might be better off. Having said that my computer isn't exactly a beast in the power department and a more powerful rig might not even notice a difference. Quote
