Our A:M troll was made by Ken Heslip. I don't know enough LOTR lore to know if that's what LOTR trolls typically "look" like although I think Ken made his before the Peter Jackson movies came out.

A few years ago, I used the A:M troll to do a short test.

 

Unfortunately, I buried this because because some of my collegues in animation gave it an unfavorable review.

 

I spent a bunch of time matching the Hash shot with an animated VUE backdrop.

 

I always liked the orange like tint. I had to reduce the quality by about 90% to get the file size low enough to post here.

SO the details are not easy to see. And the colors are dulled somewhat in H.264 format. Anyway....

I think Ken made his before the Peter Jackson movies came out.

 

There were several characters modeled as the first LOTR movie was released. Ken Heslip created his Troll and Will Sutton created his Balrog based on the inspiration they saw therein.

 

Nice test William. That faceless Troll is freakin me out.

Of course that is the shade of a dozen or more character rigs released since your test to steer folks away from facial animation and concentrate on body mechanics.
