WD has introduced a combination SSD and HD in one slot. The SSD is for the OS and the HD is for data.

That's basically how I have my PC set up except the drives are separate.

I don't know how much extra they charge for packing it into one piece but for a laptop situation that has only one slot it would be advantageous. :)

Side note... is photographing a new hard drive a tough assignment or an easy one? How do you make a rectangle that's just like everyone else's rectangle look exciting? How do you give it more "pop"? :D

I've got a friend who photographs jewelry for a living and I was surprised at how much went into it. The final shots are usually composites of several photos, since one lighting setup might make the gold band of a ring look good, but blow out the jewels. Not to mention that these are small items that are going to be reproduced many times their size, so the focus has to be perfect.

We had a photographer on our staff at Nortel and he spent a lot of time getting beautiful shots of our many gray boxes and beige office phones.

Then he'd take a nap on the couch in the studio.

I understand he's a real estate agent now, since the demise of that concern. More places to nap, I suppose.

I don't know if this is just a bad photo they took, or if that's the way the drive actually looks. Are there pinholes in the surface? My guess is that if my eyes aren't deceiving me, these must be for ventilation? Why not just make the entire top of the drive a heat sink?
