Admin Rodney Posted September 12, 2013 Admin Posted September 12, 2013 Nice find John! Now that's what governments should be doing... creating 3D models for it's citizenry. Gonna have to make a tshirt now that says, "Make 3D... not war." The model I happened to download and test took between 5 - 10 minutes to get through the OBJ converter but it came through nicely. A bit dense to animate but never-the-less... nice! All the Groups/colors came through beautifully. Please do not ask why he is hovering over a 100% reflective black ground... it seemed like a good idea at the time. ACES.mdl Quote

johnl3d Posted September 12, 2013 Author Posted September 12, 2013 Grabbed one and put in a prop without the decals but did quick background in photoshop Quote
Admin Rodney Posted September 12, 2013 Admin Posted September 12, 2013 Nice one! I grabbed the Global Hawk as my test for 3DS prop import. It looked to me like a few images needed to be renamed but otherwise it worked well. It imported almost instantaneously. Quote
John Bigboote Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Interesting! No offense to your image, Rodney... but- we have better modelers here on this forum than they do at NASA! This is a great find! Quote
Admin Rodney Posted September 13, 2013 Admin Posted September 13, 2013 we have better modelers here on this forum than they do at NASA! I agree! The thought also occurred to me that some of these models (or others not included on the site) might have started life as spline based A:M models. The reason I thought of that... we use to have someone in the A:M Community that created models/animation at NASA. I seem to recall they last posted NASA related work around the time of the first Mars landing. Quote
