Upgrade 32-bit vs. 64-bit

Recommended Posts

It is time to renew my subscription. I previously used the 32-bit version of AM. I just bought a new Windows 7 Dell 64-bit machine. Does anyone have any

thoughts on the pros and cons of 64-bit AM vs. continuing to use 32-bit AM on a 64-bit machine?

The good news is you can download and install both and use both with your license on your 64-bit machine. Just copy the master0.lic file from the one you activated with to the other one.

the only big con of 64-bit IMO is no QuickTime for renders.

Pros 64 bit:

- Faster at least for computers with more than 3 GB of RAM.

Cons 64 bit:

- TSM and Quicktime will not work.

> as Robert told you before: You can install both versions on one computer.

I never use TSM or Quicktime and as that 64bit is the way to go for me.

I'd say, since 32 bit computers are very uncommon today, A:M will sooner or later only be developed for 64 bit systems. But we will see... depends on how hard it is to compile it for 32bits.
