pixelplucker Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 I have this model and when I render with SSS on, the rubber grip loses the bump map and the pen in front turns black. With SSS off is how it should look. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Anyone? Message_Pens.zip Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted August 31, 2012 Hash Fellow Posted August 31, 2012 the black may be because the normals are in the wrong direction? My experience is that bump maps are not compatible with SSS. Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted August 31, 2012 Hash Fellow Posted August 31, 2012 Nope, you have them facing out, so that should be OK. I can't see that you have the extinction distances set to anything. Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted August 31, 2012 Hash Fellow Posted August 31, 2012 I'm not sure of the problem. Hopefully an SSS guru will look in. Quote
pixelplucker Posted August 31, 2012 Author Posted August 31, 2012 Good to know bumps aren't compatible, not a big deal in this case since I went without sss. What got me stumped is it is the same model and one rendered with sss other didn't. Quote
mtpeak2 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 You can not use multiple instances of the same model in the chor, only the first instance will render the SSS. This is something I've had issues with as well (can't remember if I A:M reported this or not, I know I was going to). A work around is to save the pen model as a new model and replace the second instance, in the chor, with the new model. For the bump map, you'll need to increase the percentage, it's not going to look the same regardless. Also, you haven't set any half extinction distances in the SSS properties. Quote

You're right here , that's a bug, is fixed for 17.0b , because 17.0a is out from my side last week. Also, you haven't set any half extinction distances in the SSS properties. In this case the default values are used . Quote
