I retrieved this c. 2004 work via the Wayback machine and felt it ought to be seen again. That's genuine A:M hair, expertly done.

I believe the old hair was able to use maps as well.

 

I just tried a "Shag" emitter and indeed it does seem to respond to maps in some fashion.

 

However, my 2004 disc has Orangutan on it and I know that was a new Hair creation, so there's still room for it to be new hair. B)

Yeh, they go all the way back to some of the earliest mammals.

Sad story, they belong to a group called Thylacine's and managed to survive all the world could throw at them for millions of years, until we came along, with guns.

Tricky to evolve a satisfactory defense to bluets in just a few years :(
