Oh and while I'm thinking, does anyone know why 64bit netrender doesn't give me the option to choose an image format? where the drop down menu should say Targa, PNG, Jpeg etc. It's just blank. Everything else is there, range resolution etc. But there're no format options so It won't work

I've seen this once before myself, I can't recall now which past A:M it was but A:M wasn't seeing the ImageIOS folder where the format plugins are kept. Now if if I recall correctly it was because for some reason it had forgot the path to the folder and by going to Tools > Options > Folders > Image IO Plugins (iio files) I could show it the path again. Failing that have you tried a re-set or a re-instal?

Hello!! It's 2013, the kids are back at school which means it's time for Dan to get back to work.

A while back (about a year) I was discussing motion comics on the forums here and have been playing with the idea ever since. Anyway I've decided to take the plunge and try making one.

The primary reason is that the 5 minute Christmas episode took a heck of a long time to render and the general video watching populous of the internet have short attention spans so you need to have consistent releases to keep their attention. I cant afford to spend a couple of months animating and rendering an episode and then have nothing new for another 2 months.

Anyway I just got through making a little test frame and I think it looks kinda nice so I figured why not post it.

Also it kinda looks like a screen shot of a video game and oh how I wish it was!

Morning all,

Been working on a new project and have run into an an odd problem.

So quick (hopefully) question. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

It's like toon render just gets bored when it gets to the top of her head and stops.

(Note: that's not final hair or anything I'm just testing)

Very cool looking toon hair!

As a guess I'd say that is the ground plane clipping the toon render.

Try either removing the ground plane or putting some geometry/model/grid behind her head.

Posted

That's fixed it, cheers Rodney.

I'd already tried deleting the ground, but putting a chunk of geometry behind seems to have done the trick. Now I can get back to styling that mop I dumped on her head. :)

I know E.G.A is supposed to be on the back burner. But I just wanted to post these renders I made before the decision was made to move on to Parallel Worlds. They're all for the prologue of E.G.A, Sonic is taking a nap under a palm tree when he is awoken by a messenger drone inviting him to Dr. Robotnik's fortress. It's an invite he cannot refuse because Eggman has captured Sonic's friend Tails. He angrily sets off to confront the doctor and save Tails.....but not all is as it seems.

I really wish I could continue with this story. Maybe one day

Ladies and Gents it's announcement time again. I've been away in England visiting family (for the first time in 3 years) and it's been great. While I've been here, Epic Gamin' has enjoyed a large jump in viewership over on Blip.tv and so it would be silly of me not to bring the show out of retirement and make season 2. So expect more E.G goodness in the near future.

So I've been away for a while busy working on stuff and most recently spent the weekend in Hospital (turns out I'm diabetic, who knew). Anyway I recently finished a new intro for the show so I figured I'd post it here. I'm also working on a new set for the new season which I hope to unveil soon.

The new theme tune is made by me so I don't need to worry about someone complaining that they've heard it before so that's a bonus.

I'm still a big fan of your 'Epic Gamin' Dan.

In fact your show was the only way I kept up with what was going on in the gaming scene.

For some reason (and it wasn't just because it was partially created with A:M!) yours was entertaining whereas others I've seen... blah... nothing of particular interest to me. In trying to understand what it is that I like about 'Epic Gamin' I'd have to say it was you... your enthusiasm... and the way you approached the show as if to say, "Look, some of this might look a bit silly... talking to imaginary characters and such... but we are allowed to have fun here so come along for the ride with me".

It's too bad there isn't yet a good way fund programs such as yours (adequate distro channels, etc.) so that you can receive compensation for the effort you put into your unique brand of entertainment. From my perspective, it's almost 'gaming for non-gamers' as much as it is for gamers.

Thanks Rodney, It's good to hear that someone likes the show. You're right about the idea of gaming show for none gamers. I've always (especially since Simon quit) tried to make the show accessible for everyone. I try and make the skits as universally appealing as possible and keep the humor at a point that wont alienate non-gamers. That's also why I cut out all the swearing and tend to review games everyone can enjoy.

Oh and I mentioned earlier that the set was nearly done....

New_Set_with_gang0_copy.png

ta da! Rendered in glorious 1080p HD (Which is also what the new series will be filmed in). Changed the color scheme to fit with the new logo, made the whole thing look more sci-fi with the suspension chamber on the right, complete with floating E.G Logo (Which will be animated in the show) and more video gamey with the giant Joystick sculpture.

Nice set Dan!

I almost hate to suggest this but...

If you pushed the camera and aimed it further down so that it rendered a slightly more downward shot that logo would be a lot more readable.

I know you have the logo elsewhere so I'm sure that won't be a huge deal.

I'd guess the final scene will be animated anyway... so... press on.... press on.

Next time on Epic Gamin' we're taking a look at Knuckles' Chaotix for the SEGA 32x. Which was the perfect excuse to make some more Sonic Characters.

First up is Vector the Crocodile. I've always hated the stupid Rapper chain they put around his neck in the 2003 re-design so guess what? E.G Vector doesn't have one.

Here he comes,

Rougher than the rest of them,

The best of them,

tougher than leather.

You can call him Knuckles,

unlike Sonic he don't chuckle,

he'd rather flex his muscles.

He's hard as nails,

it aint hard to tell,

he'll break 'em down whether they're solid or frail.

Unlike the rest he's independent since his first breath, first test,

feel the right, then the worst left.

Aaaaaand that's enough paraphrasing Knuckles' theme from Sonic Adventure.

Turns out one day is today! I've decided that if people can make pay sites full of videogame and cartoon character porn and not get sued. Then I can use videogame characters to make a web series and hopefully not get sued either.

So here's a look at page 1 of the Epic Gamin': Animated Motion Comic

Another impressive episode Dan.

You cover a whole lot of information in these videos.

'Metroid Other M' looks like a really fun game!

Too bad we don't have more folks interested in gaming around here.

Someone needs to model that suit (and other props from these games)! :)

You've got me intrigued.

This may be a secret but, I figure you are the voice of Tech and (hopefully) yourself.

And Gwen is your wife (right?)

Whose the voice of Game?

Fun stuff!

Keep 'em coming!

Posted

Thanks as always Rodney.

I am indeed Tech and me, Gwen is my wife Nicole as you said and Game is my daughter Kiara.

Samus' power suit and Samus without the power suit are on my to do list of things for the E.G.M.C along with a plethora of other character from various franchises. The plot for E.G.M.C has implications for the whole Gamerverse.

Please pass on my congratulations to your wife and daughter.

They come across as both entertaining and knowledgeable.

You all make a great team

I hope you all have as much fun putting these together as I do watching them.

Another fine (and informational!) episode.

My favorite line: "...Tom is just John with a hat on."

Character design should always be that easy, no? :)

Long live Epic Gamin'!

Thanks as always Rodney.

Oh have you guys ever wondered what Gwen would look like if she was an anime character?0 I have, and as I had a little time today and have been criminally neglecting my 2D stuff. I made Gwenime. She's not been shaded much but hey I figured I'd post her anyway.

Gwenime0_copy.png

Sorry it's not technically A:M (Although I did figure out her pose with the actual Gwen model) also I pulled the Cutting Edge gun blade out of the cupboard so she had something to hold.

Posted

Remember I said years ago that the original plan for E.G was an anime girl and a dragon. Well I added the dragon this year and now I have started the anime girl. Note the body is just thrown in there it's not the one I'll be using.

Still need to work on her but she's comin' along

Ho ho ho guys, it's Christmas episode time again and year it's on time!

A:M wise we have Tech, Gwen, Game and a whole new Christmas themed short starring Ace, the Ace.Co mascot.

http://blip.tv/aceco/full-episode-6702486

This year the team checks out a 1994 SNES game called Daze before Christmas, educates the world on the European legend of Krampus, throw in some 2D cartoon goodness and Game tries to make something 'a thing'. Had a lot of fun making this one.
