HomeSlice Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 I had a strange computer problem today. My computer would not POST. When I pressed the power button, the power light came on, the fans started, the hard hard drive spun up for like one second then stopped and the DVD drive initialized but then ... nothing. No Beep. No display. Nothing. I thought maybe my cpu fan stopped working and my cpu was overheating ... Or some of my RAM was going bad ... Or my power supply was going bad ... Or maybe my motherboard was going bad ... Before I cracked open my case, I decided to Google some information first. One of the solutions I read was ridiculously easy, so I thought I would give it a try even though I seriously doubted that it would work. BUT IT WORKED!!!! The solution is here, posted by Kareem: http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-35484-m...uter-won-t-boot "I KNOW THE SOLUTION REMOVE YOUR POWER CORD AND HOLD THE ON BUTTON FOR LIKE 30second TO A MINUTE AND THEN CONNECT IT BACK AND TURN IT ON" I am a very very happy camper. But why did that work? Does anyone know? Quote
Tore Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Maybe something to do with condensators? On a guitar amplifier they can store enough power to give you a considerable electric shock if not short cirquited first. This can be done by connecting both legs on the power cord with a screwdriver, but I don't know if this applies for a computer... Quote
NancyGormezano Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 degaussed? discharge capacitors in power supply? battery reset? reset memory ? Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted March 13, 2011 Hash Fellow Posted March 13, 2011 I'll remember that one. Twice in my 15 years of PC using I've had a computer suddenly not start up for no obvious reason. I can't remember if it wouldn't POST or if it wouldn't even respond at all to the power button, but in those two cases replacing the little battery on the motherboard brought it back. Quote
DJBREIT Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 It probably dose a discharge on the mother board or reset. I do know if you hold the reset button when plugged in for thirty seconds it will do a force shut down. So there maybe a reset circuit in the transformer that resets the mother board . Quote
