TheSpleen
I have started a WIP model of a my own Knight and I would like to add maybe some small engraving or mostly some dents in his armor. Are there any TUTS out there to show me how to do this? Thank you very much!
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted October 8, 2008 Hash Fellow Share Posted October 8, 2008 no tut but general tips... middle gray is no bump white is protruding, black is recessed, but a white square on a black background will not have much effect. it's the blurry grayscale transition from light to dark that the renderer really pays attention to to create the look. For that reason, sharp geometric shapes and thin lines are things bump maps are least suited to since they have the least room for the gray transition between light and dark. Fuchur
RGB { 0 - 255 } -> Middlegray: 128 / 127 (128 is comon) -> RGB: 128/128/128 For some dents you could use a patch-image (if the patches are more or less the same size) or you could try out BitMapPlus (which only works with Normal-Maps so, not Bumpmaps or displacementmaps (it's a pitty...) Patch-Images can be created by creating a group, clicking in the PWS with the rightmousebutton on it and choosing "New Image". That will tell A:M to use the same image on every patch of the model. If you need more control you however will have to unwrap / flatten your model. *Fuchur*
