Thanks Dhar and Nancy, I am not sure why the ball is being obscured. I noticed that after I posted. I apppears to be a corner of the cloth that flips up and blocks the ball. I have not had time to look into it.

Okay it has something to do with the sprites and simcloth combo

this is a differet view and a lot of stuff becomes invisible

Here is the v13 project I will try to see if its the way the materials /transparency was applies with the sprites to the cloth

Since this was a test and my computer is slow I had this set to 1 pass on multipass. I changed it to 3 passes and the ball behaved properly after all not disappearing completely here is a short render
