Yes John3d, boolean cutters work in V12v+. I used one in my render farm benchmarking project.

 

Why do you think the cutter is a little rough?

 

It's dark because the hole is properly shadowed. Unless you have that blue plane behind it as a light source.

 

Remember your boolean's color will be the color of your hole.

I have run into a snag using booleans in v13 so tested again in v12. The cutter was a quick illustrator path of text and then imported into AM a little too jaggy but I was only testing The blue behind the hole was from a volumetric light .My favorite use of booleans was this
