RingerT
Hi to everyone, I´m completely new to animation:master. I got my A:M last week and today it´s the first day I dive into it. I try to follow the exercises from the manual and got a problem with exercise 4:"it´s a pitch" and the knight-model. I´ve tried and tried, but I can´t get the knees of the knight model to do what I want. They always bend in the wrong direction, mostly backwards but never as they should. Especially when I lower the torso of the knight, they bend backwards, so I can´t pose him with bended knees. The only way to work around I´ve found was to swich IK off, but then I loose all my poses. Can anyone tell me, what I´m doing wrong? Thanks a lot RingerT
itsjustme
Hmmm, I don't know, RingerT....I just checked and it worked fine for me (I checked two versions of AM). What version of AM are you running, v12q? If you post a screenshot or the Action, it would help us help you.
RingerT
Hi again, I added pictures of my problem. On pic 1 is the just imported knight. on pic 2 I drag the knight a little down and you see, that the right foot drop under the floor. If I drag him a little more down, suddenly he snapps to the back-bended knees, you see on pic 3. I tried the same with the shaggy model and there´s no problem. When I drag Shaggy down, his knees bend correctly. I use A:M Version 12.q Any idea, what I´m doing wrong? RingerT
phnxpyre
yeah... i have been having problems with the knight as well. Like when you put the can-can action onto him, his knees will bend wierd ways. so i pretty much have the same questions that ringert has. itsjustme
I don't know....but, if the foot goes below the level of the IK foot controller when moving the hip in IK it isn't right. All I did was open the knight, open a new Action and then move him around. I didn't have a problem. So, you're "importing" him? Or "opening" him? I don't think it would make a difference, but, maybe it does somehow. I'll have to go back and experiment tonight...I'll post here again after messing around with it a little. phnxpyre
David: what i am doing is just draging the knight into the choreography window from the libraries.
itsjustme
Okay, I was still using my v12 (Sorcerez) disc...the Knight is fine on that disc. On the v13 (Yeti), the Knight is messed up. Here's the one from the v12 disc, it should work fine. Knight.zip
mtpeak2
The thigh orient bones are not angled enough, I adjusted them (angling them forward slightly) and it worked fine.
RingerT
Thanks a lot Itsjustme, your older version of the knight works perfect and rescued me from thinking, that I´m a complete idiot, because I couldn´t solve the task of using the knight :-). Do you think, I should give Hash a "bug-report" on this? mtpeak, even I use the "old_knight" now, I would like to know, how to correct the angle when the IK-system ist already placed on the model, cause there aren´t any handles to modify the knees. I try to swich ik off and then adjust the angles, but when I switch on the ik again, it "jumps" back in the old position. Or is this operation maybe a little to "advanced" for me as a A:M-starter? anyway, thanks a lot to you both for helping me with my first A:M-problem (I guess, it won´t be the last :-)). Great comunity here! RingerT
itsjustme
Do you think, I should give Hash a "bug-report" on this? I don't think it's something that would go under the heading "bug report", but making sure everyone knows about it can't hurt. Rodney hands out the TaoAM certificates...maybe let him know since he deals with a lot of people that would encounter the problem (I'll send him a note). It won't be able to be fixed until the next CD comes out unless Hash makes another version of the CD. Or is this operation maybe a little to "advanced" for me as a A:M-starter? It's not hard, but, for someone just getting their bearings it is better left for a little later...in my opinion. Have fun. If you run into problems, there are a lot of helpful people here in the forum.

Liquidspaceman
From the Lagoon of Liquidspaceman... I too have a Knight with bad knees. he said it was only a flesh wound, but I know better. I'm going back to a pre v12.0, which I just bought, and show you my knight with knees of Royalty Bad knight of the dark forest, soon to be replaced by the Good Knight of the Light Forest!
