Hey Folks,

I was just wondering if anyone has used Flash as a game engine? I know that it would be fairly simple to make a side scroller using images build in A:M then rendered out flat. Anyone know how? Flashkit.com has a little tutorial, any other good resources?

Hi Alonso

I created flash adventure game for Christmas few years ago. It was called "FreeSanta Claus" and idea was to free Santa from evil pirates before Christmas. It was quite big game with real revards in cash. It was great sucess. I used Hash to render characters and their movements. Then I traced image sequences into Flash. Everything from game engine to level and dialog editors was done ih Flash. Yes, Flash can be excellent tool for some types of games. If you are interested, you can download it from: http://www.multimediaworx.com/files/FreeSanta2001.zip

Hi Alonso,

This is probably the best Flash game tutorial that I know of. The tutorials are step by step getting adding more features to your game each time. A must see for anyone developing Flash games.

Thanks for the links guys. I've seen alien hominid before, pretty fun. Man I gotta quit my day job so I can have more free time to do important things (like making a sprite based game with Thom :) )

yep.. use it all the time at work. That and Macromedia Director. Side scrollers are about as easy as it gets with 2d games. The cool thing about Director is you can create some pretty cool sidescrollers that actually use the 3d card processing instead of the computer's. Much much faster.

Both are good. theres a few flash "game" programming books out there as well.
