i had that file and it cause me a lot of troubles, so i had to format my
entire HD, but, how or from where i got infected with this virus?
you got the virus by opening an infected attachment from an email sent from yet another computer user who did the same thing.
these latest email viruses spread out thanks to ms outlook's swiss cheese security.

realtime on the web has previously had a rough time of it for two reasons:
- no content
- poor presentation
arcticpigs will allow us to solve the first with our imagination, and 3d video hardware advances plus neils's mad skilz will take care of the second.
i've got the proof on every page of my site.
i agree that a mac/nescape browser plugin is needed for the other 5-8% of the web-browsing world, but 95-92% is a good start. ' ' )

my very first thought was a mixture of elvis and clinton... so i guess you nailed it! ' ' )
i'd ask you to do dubyah next, but since he's already doing all of us, it seems kinda pointless.

these types of viruses usually find their victims in the address books of infected machines, but the spam/trojan email they create almost always has a forged 'from' address. you can find out the originating server by checking the detailed headers in the email, which is often hidden by email readers.
the best advice i can give is don't open an attachment from anyone unless you are expecting it, and don't use outlook!

I WILL PAY MONEY FOR ARTIC PIGS FOR V11!!
well, i think that's the general idea ' ' )
i can't think why anyone wouldn't offer up gobs of money for such an incredibe tool, but when arcticpigs first came out, i don't think many people 'got it'.
i hope more spliners wise up next time around!

cronos,
...and when the sun goes away it's less bright outside? ' ' )
there are two kinds of animation: master users
- those that think arcticpigs is awesome and can't wait to use it
- those that don't have any idea what we're talking about
- okay three... i do use it, but can't wait for the new version either
-jon
ps: please remove the first or last frame in your animated gif... that pause is driving me nutser.

the current plugin works with v8.5. this is fine for me since i've never made the leap to the v10-11 interface. i'll have to soon, since...
it's my understanding that a new alpha plugin for 11.0 (10.5 too?) is in the works, and will be made available here once neils is done reworking his masterpiece.

does your character going to have a lot of wardrobe changes that show more or less of the underlying body?
if not, unibody is fine. by modeling the character and clothes separately, you do run the risk of popouts if the two models aren't closely matched spline-for-spline.

sigh.. this is the third time i've changed my mind about this...
but i'm going to let bianca keep her natural skin color and all of her body parts (mouth, nose, etc.), and give the costume a more desaturated look.
i'll post an update when i can.

could anyone compare increased geometry detail versus displacement maps as it impacts realtime 3d?
i imagine that with the newest video cards, displacement maps might be a more efficient way of adding detail, versus more complex geometry.
thanks,

ps: thanks for the legwork john!

well, regardless of it's heritage, it sounds like it's gonna be a kickin machine!
you'll notice my 'new' machine is built with 2002-vintage parts ' ' )

Oh stop it!
Just because people choose to go through a company to build them a system, doesn't mean they are getting cheated
um... that's not quite what i said.
it's true that -- until i forget all my mad tech skills -- building my own box is the way to go for me.
a perfectly reasonable alternative is to have someone *else* build you a frankenbox with the videocard and processor (at least) specified by you.
this is opposed to buying an 'alienware' or 'cats pyjamas' box and spending a good chunk of your money on the name.
i'm not the burning bush here, and i'm not disrespecting people who don't have the time or inclination to learn how to jam pieces together to make a system. i just don't believe that these high-cost branded systems are a good value when stacked up against a no-name box with superior components.
-jon
-
the only brand names that should concern you are the processor and the video card... for either a system you built yourself or picked up from a shop. i also have a short list of motherboards and harddrive makers to stay away from, but that's not a firm rule.
having some third party's name on the complete system isn't really worth that much to me... except as a warning.
i'm a true believer of the frankenbox!

built a few months ago: biostar m7vig mb, amd xp 1800 processor, ati radeon 9100 128m, noname ram, noname case, westerndigital hd, wacom tablet. (under 600 bux, not including the wacom)

martian queen is correct!
for those not able to partake of duck dodgers... marvin the martian is back, and serves his similiarly-featureless queen.
think cleopatra with light-absorbing skin and no mouth and you're most of the way there.

well, a better neckpiece, tiara thing and some straps are needed to complete the costume. and her hair is roughed in.
a clue to it's origin is that you're gonna be lost without the cartoon network. ' ' )
anytime you need an arctic pigs fix, you can find bianca (sporting a much more contemporary look) on my site.

ps: i'm still not convinced on number 3. ' ' ~

i thought i coded it so a gif shows up if you're not pig enabled... here's a screencap:
thanks for taking the time to ask!

hello,
please check out my latest wip: bianca's next costume
http://www.luminousshadows.com/wip/
1> do you recognize the character?
2> does it work in this more realistic style?
3> what the hek is wrong with me?

with easily the most posts of any user on this forum, i say we need to give rodney his own magazine to help reduce the strain on the server!
seriously, though... what type of content do you see for this virtual publication?
-jon

...
' ' )

looking at her ears, the outer ridge seems overly thin. everything else about the character is slightly unrealistic... which is the essence of 'style'. good job!
the wardrobe is just fine. not quite business casual, but i've seen teens wear far worse.
keep it up!

some are a little off the mark, but there's plenty of good tuteledge here.

um... we have a user database right here! (the forum)
i'm sure that it would be a smaller effort to make the user location field searchable (or even plot it on a globe) than to create a whole new system.
that being said, i haven't the skills or willpower to do either. ' ' )

anyone going to columbus' origins in june?
-
rodney,
i don't think it's fair to say that many folks have counted them out... most people haven't had the opportunity to fall in love with the pig, since it's not compatible with versions past 8.5
i've done serious research on realtime 3d, and arctic pigs is easily the most configurable for non-programmers such as myself. i find the lack of development news frustrating too, but i'm certain that our faith is not misplaced.
i'm kind of dreading the new release, actually... i'll finally have to learn the new a:m v10 interface! ' ' )

i've got an overclocked amd xp 1800. i think it's running at 116% so, that'd be.... 2.088 ghz?
-jon
people with renderfarms should just add up all your processors. ' ' )
what is the best version of 8.5
in (2003-2004)
Posted
i have very fond memories of version 8.5p++... from last night! ' ' )
i swear i really will catch up to v11 any day now...
