Steve, I looked at your model. There are some modeling issues that you should take care of before you do any rigging. I would recommend deleting the left half of the model, fixing what needs fixing and then do a Copy, Flip, Attach. The clothes and hair doesn't matter, just the body. The Root bone had also been translated in the X axis, this minor offset is causing the back bones to be duplicated. The back2_geom bone has some Y rotation as well.
-
Steve, the first thing I notice is that the "MirrorBones" bone in not at 0 on the X axis. Did you translate the "Root" bone in the X axis by accident? I see duplicate spine bones that were created by the MirrorBone plugin. The black cps are probably because those cps are not mirrored (CFA). The plugin will assign them to the model bone, causing the false weighting. If you have a version saved before running the plugin, I can take a look if you want.

Thanks everybody. Vern, benefit over TSM2 rig (FK/IK switching) Squetch rig (no recompensation of constraints) 2001 rig (alot). I'm not sure what you mean by "official" 2008 rig.
-
I added the InstallRig plugins to my first post.
-
Face rig installer coming soon, just not sure how soon though. I need a break. Here's a link to an example face rig I'm working on.
-
Well Nancy, you can get your nose off your monitor now. I posted the installer and instructions in a new thread. The thread is pinned to the top of the 2008 rig sub forum. later

Well, here it is, finally. Sorry about the large file size. I had 2 versions of the instructions, but I settled for just the PDF, the other added another 7megs to the zip file. I hope I was thorough enough and clear enough with the instructions, I'm sure you'll let me know if I wasn't. It's not the best of instructions, but should do the job. As I've said before, I'm not very good at this sort of thing. So, if you have any problems with the installation process, let me know. Here the link to the MirrorBones plugin. http://www.sgross.com/plugins/ [EDIT] Updated relationships and added installation notes. To fix a model that has the previous version of the rig (update 9), just drag and drop the relationship folder from the installer to your models name in the PWS. You will need to reexport your model from an action, following the instructions. Windows_InstallRig.zip OSX_InstallRig.hxt.zip Example_Models.zip v13_2008_Rig_Installer_4_20_2011.zip

I'm so close to being done, but I have to go out for awhile, damn. I'll pick it up when I get home. I should be able to post something later.
-
Thanks guys. WooHoo!!! I'm through the hand/fingers for the instructions, just need to double check it. Plugins left to go. Almost done, thankfully.
-
I've been modifying the installation rig as I go through the instructions, to try to make the installation easier. The fingers are probably the hardest part of the installation, not necessarily hard, but tedious, as they always are. I hope to have the instructions done today. PS-Boy, I can't wait for this to be done, I hate doing it, hopefully I won't have to make too many of these. I know I have at least one more to do, the face rig. I'd rather be working on the rigs instead.
-
Masna, on page 17 you can download 2 models with the 2008 rig installed. There is no installation rig yet posted, I'm working on the instructions to install it. I'm through the arms for the instructions, with the hands and plugins to go.
-
Thanks Dale. I just have the arms and hands left to do for the instructions, plus how and when to run the plugins.
-
Thanks jirard. Work has been busy, so I haven't had the time to work on the instructions. I hope to have them done this weekend though.
-
I hope so, Rodney. Well, unfortunately I'm not any further along in the instructions, but I have everything I had caught up in WINK.
-
Well, if my method doesn't suit your needs, you can always create your own.
-
Well, I'm back to working on the instructions again, I haven't had time to work on it this past week. I've decided to use Wink to present the instructions. With Wink I have 3 options, the standard wink format (swf) or I can export it to HTML or PDF files.

MirrorConstraints MUST have an action or pose window open in order for the plugin to work correctly, if you don't the offsets will be incorrect. With the TSM rig, your best bet is to setup your fan bones and fan constraints AFTER the flipper plugin and BEFORE you run the rigger plugin. I'm not sure when you are trying to do this, I haven't read all your posts or your PDF.
-
The Hips null works like the body bone of the TSM rig. It's an overall upper body controller/whole body with FK legs on. Switching ON the steady poses in the spine folder make the head, chest and hips independent to th hips null. I renamed the Hips null and Hips controller to something else to try to avoid any confusion.
-
Hey Will, thanks. I'm still working on the instructions and haven't posted an installer yet, the installation rig is ready barring any problems that come up. The installation rig will have only one side of the rig, the MirrorBones plugin will take care of the other side, AFTER cp assignment and weighting. Unfortunately, the rig has no squash and stretch capabilities, maybe version 2. I should have it ready in a week or so, I'm trying to incorporate the BVH pose into the rig, so all you would need to do is capture the motion in the BVH file.
-
If I can, I'll setup a pose that has the constraints setup already to use the BVH files. You may need to edit the constraint offsets for different models though. If I can set it up with expressions, that may eleminate editing the pose.
-
Here's an update. While poking around in the rig, trying to figure out Chris' issue, I found 2 missing constraints (not related). [EDIT] New update Available Here.
-
Hey Chris. I looked at the project file again today, this IS a size issue. I scaled Robby in bones mode, using the scale manipulator while holding the ctrl key (pc). I then switch in Robby in the pitch action and it is a whole lot better.
-
Rodney, I'm not sure what you are talking about with the hips, both models work exactly the same. You don't need the rotate manipulator to rotate the hips on Robby.
-
I just looked at the project. There does seem to be something going on. It may be a difference between the rig being built in Thom and the rig being installed in Robby. I'll look into it more.
-
That will be a problem with most reusable actions, with any rig. As long as the models size and proportions are roughly the same, the models will be able to use the same actions. The actions could also be modified to other models and save to a different name.
