Some Joe Blow called wanting to buy Hash. “Sure,” I said. “I’m serious, if you’re serious.” (I always say that to self-proclaimed buyers.) Then I said, “But it’s been 20 years and dozens of people have told me that… And I still own 100% of my company.” I’m just relating this story because it happened yesterday and I’m writing a blog so it seems appropriate – nothing’s going to come of it, (never does and I wouldn’t know what to do if it did).
I wonder , why a company like Adobe for instance doesn`t ask you to sell to them.
With Ha:mr and the Metaverse-technology, I guess they could higly improve their Flash`3D capabilities...
or even Sony or Google for construction of online-game comunitiies....these people must be blind.
Maybe you can sell them some licenses one day. (Probably much better for you)

I found a good ball bounce tutorial, followed it, and learned a lot more then I expected. I am beginning to break some bad habits, blocking out the animation ahead of time, and manipulating timeline splines. One thing I have noticed, A:M doesn't have spline manipulator handles, how can I get these? Without them spline in the timeline is cumbersome. I know it must be something I have missed.

.....So will we be able to use aftereffects then instead?

Hi Yves,
Sorry, that might be some kind of missunderstanding here.
I don`t want to suggest a forum-section for teaching how to draw.
What we need is an own section for conception and planning and previsualtion of a movie,
where everybody can learn from and contribute to.
The media to contribute should mostly, but not necesarily, be visual, like drawings, video, stillomatic,
animatics, blocked 3D sequences, whatever else you could think of.
very simple ,simple drawings just being the easiest way to comunicate here, even for people , who canot really draw.
But anybody can draw circles and boxes and draw a smily inside, cant he?
>Up to now the very important aspect of movie making , conception and direction, is not payed enough attention to, though it stands at the very beginning .
We just took what Bob gave us and execute it now.
This might work somehow for this movieproject, but definitly not for the next.
I am glad, I could convince Martin on this , so eventually starting this discussion leads to something...

See even Tony White says from "PENCILES to Pixels"
so why keep you guys ignoring my idea?
Don`t you think we need some forum to learn the ropes of filmmaking
as well?
Or do you exspect, everybody reads and teaches those things himself?
Then we probably wont reach a "common" level we could work with
easily.....

Hi Martin,
>Of course, I like the concept, Jake, but how is that different than the animatics we're working from now? We actually have the particular animatic in the "movies" directory of each shot. That's where I get the scene length and the initial layout.
Up to now, we are working from the animatics of a very expierienced and professional conceptionist and director.
And by doing so kind of skipped that very essential learning-expierience how to develop a concept
and previsualize a story for ourselves.
Now we dont have that director anymore ( besides he hadn`t finished everything up to now, right?).
So we are in need to develop for many people some abilities to make concept and to direct.
And the easiest way is by training this in an own forumsection with simple drawings.
(And if not for this project, it would be needed for the next project anyhow. So why not start it now?)
I do not think, these kind of very advanced animatics Bob did are really necessary for making the movie anyhow.
They are fantastic art and a good way to sell the idea and to attract people to collaborate or to give money,
but for would be followers it`s a bit intimidating.
Since we dont want to do a 2D cartoon-movie , lets do just very rude
scribbles to plan ahead and to discuss.
That still would give far better discription of what shall happen in the movie then pure writting description, especially for camera angle.
I think in learning this aspect of moviemaking also,it would fit bettter to the Hash idea: "Everbody can become a director/make a movie ,instead of just execute something, somebody else gave to us.
Up to now this very important aspect of movie making , conception and direction, is not payed enough attention to, though it stands at the very beginning .
(In comparision it would be even more reasonable ,to leave the lighting and the post to some specialists.)
Besides I think it would be great fun to watch everybodys scribbling-abilities develop:
Let the "fast and the curious" rule!
Sorry , since I am no native speaker, I hope, I could make my point clear?

>As the designated "finishers," if you want to move the camera, do it.
And be prepared to re-re-animate those parts of the character(s) that didn't get touched because they weren't in view in the original "assigned" assumed-to-be-appropriate camera angle.
"Movie by Anarchy" is tough.
(I may be the only one who likes it that way)
But this also requires some more planning ahead on their behalf.
I suggest, that every hackfaster and animator does a very, very simplistic shootingboard in his very own
style, that he is able to achieve and posts it before his animation-effort ,
so that everybody will be able see, if the animator has reached his goal (and not something he made "accidentily") and also to be able to judge and discuss things like cameraangle etc. before too much "real" work is put into it.
This drawings gathered togehter also would be a good foundation to develop some kind of "directing in parts" for this movie.
Therefore the shootingboardssection should have its own thread here in TWO-Forum.
And everybody should be able to contribute to it.
Don`t take the animatics as a standard.
Its really not necessary to draw very good for this, I think you can make yourself clear also with very reduced style, even add some wording if necessary.
I attched some example of what I mean, which I have drawn very quickly.
What do you folks think?
Jake?

WoW!!!
What a great way to comment movieclips!!!!!
Is this done with camtasia?

I started to understand pathanimation a bit better by using a very simplistic project.
I can slow the object down now by prolonging the chor-action.
Also I can alter the speed of the object along the path with the ease-percenntages.
But I find this rather indirectly, like an try-and-error-principle.
There must be away to get an object to acellerate on a path from start to end at a mathematically
exact constant pace I guess?
And to steer it lets say go to a certain point on the path accelerating , then continue steadily to the next point
and then slow down again till the end?
Would you do that with expressions maybe or overlaying actions or multiple pathes?
Could anybody put me in the right direction please

I reworked it after turning Balance and Balance Rigid of.
Still loosing the grip.
I guess the only way to reach my goal is to animate the doorknob then?
Also cant move/turn the arms anymore when Shaggy is streched.
Is this due to the kinematic constraint?
-
Hi all,
Here is my go on the walkcycle.
I used Shaggy in order that he can go to the stucked door.
Critics wellcome.
;>) Jake
....I dont get the use of the ease-channel.
Even the David Rogers description is not clear to me.
I just can alter the position of Shaggy on the path,
but how can I get him to walk slower?
?;>/ Jake

Thank you Tralfaz,
I will try that.
Well, here is , what I got so far.
Still quite cathastrohic:
The knees bending quite funny, hands loosing contact of the doorknob,
leftarm going strangly through the body.
Well, guess its a start at last.
I will continue tomorrow....

Thank you Caroline,
that helped a lot.
I have been away from AM quite a while and had never really started animating,
so I greatly apreciate your advice.
Also I find it quite difficult to pose Shaggy.
Sometimes the bones for instance in the arm get really twisted , sometimes I cant use the rotationhandles of the bones and that makes achieving the poses Shaggy shall have not an easy task.
Is there a certain strategy you follow to pose the shaggyrigg or some points you have to pay special attention to, to handle the rigg more easily?
;>) Jake
-
Thank you for your help Caroline.
>As your project stands, when I move the doorknob bone, the Right Forearm Kinematic Constraint works, but the left one didn't. I deleted the Left Forearm constraint, and just put it in again, and it was fine. (Perhaps you left off Compensate on the Left Forearm??)
When you move the door knob bone, shaggy's arm will also move.
So when I drag Shaggy with his hipbone away from the door, I can do so without affecting the doorknob.
But I fixed his leftarm as you said and notice that he moves along with the doorknobbone now, though I am able to pull the doorknob away from the arm totally. So it uis not really attached, isìt?
Is this how its meant to be and is the written instruction in the manual just a missunderstanding?
My other question.
I just want to change the position of Shaggy in an action window, lets say move him 5cm to the right.
But when I drag him lets say at his hip or pelvisbone, his whole pose I just gave him ,falls apart and I have to pose him anew. There must be a way to move him "stiffly" I guess?
Thanks again
;>) Jake

and another dumb question:
how can I move Shaggy in an actionwindow without
changing all the bones positions?
-
Hi folks,
I got stuck with the door.
I added the Kinematic constraints, but when I move shaggy, he isnt fixed to the doorknob.
What can I be doing wrong.
I ebnclose the project.
Thank you

Hi Stian,
Wonderfull work!!!!!!!!!!
One minor thing, the glas-cockpits of the Arado-planes seems to be a little too wide/big to my impression. Its nitpicking (and maybe I am even not right) , but since the whole thing is so detailed maybe you might like to control that also....
What`s next? Maybe the Yamato??

>I am sorry to say I liked it better as it was before.
Maybe its just that the neck now seems to be too long and thin?

I sat the dog off to one side for a couple of days and when I came back to it last night I found I did not like the head. So here is a complete redo of the head.

Absolutly no problems with the flashsite here.
Maybe it`s a Mac thing?
Very interesting stuff so far.....

Hi Pequod,
Great work!
I admire your style.
If this wont get funding what else will?
Could anybody send me a link to the cg-talk thread please?
I am curious, what they will be saying over there.

Great animation!
In my eyes it looks perfect.

After TWO?

Mark, I also agree with everything you are saying.
Only by being able to at least afford a humble (maybe even only parttime) living by doing this, there will be a continuity possible for the ones participating. (OOps, hope I could make myself clear?)
Otherwise its the priceless learningexpirience.
But I think the chances for selling this movie when it will be finished are clearly there.
