mootsger Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 I've been working on this metal flake material, in v8.5, in my spare time. I really wanted to capture the sparkling quality as the perspective changed. I rememberd a tuturial by Charles Babbage: "Diffraction Grating 101", where he used a multi-gradient tree for specular accents. I figured I could do the same thing for a whole material by adjusting the "edge surface" property, by rotating you see the same material slightly offset with some colors attributes switched, giving it a twinkling appearance. Still needs a little work. Metal Flake Test .MOV If someone would like to repost, please do so. (low, low bandwidth) And incase your wondering "Why did he need to use metal flake?" I've been working on my stick-puppet coverband, "The Rinds". This is going to be an ever changing project, always growing...Growing...GROWING!!! Quote
Iham Wrong Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 Gosh! That is cool looking. If the chrome had something to reflect it would near photoreal. Good job getting the material effect. Quote
heyvern Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 Dagnabbit! Where were you 2 years ago! I would have paid hard cash for that drum set!!! I couldn't even find "poly" models of a drum set. Very nicely done! Metal flake works for me! Vernon "VERY different drummer" Zehr Quote
modernhorse Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 Set looks good. Much better than the champagne sparkle one that I sold a few years back. I would make the first tom (the one on the left as you sit behind the drums) a bit smaller. Right now the two on the bass drum seem to be the same diameter. I dig it and hope hope to see some character playin those skins! Doug Quote
mootsger Posted April 19, 2004 Author Posted April 19, 2004 Click here to download the material. If it doesn't work I'll just post the code. Quote
Ross Smith Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 Vielen Dank for sharing your mat! I was about to post in admiration, but now I can post in admiration _and_ gratitude. Anyway, it's very swank. Quote
