I like looking at sculpture as it has many analogies to what we do in 3D modeling.

I love this early Byzantine-era (c. AD 550 ) piece known as the "Barberini Ivory," possibly a representation of one of the emperors.

I especially like the skeptical expression of the horse.

- I wonder if that is a skull ornament on the front of his sandal leggings. Cat? Monkey?

- The right rear leg of the horse seems not as expertly thought out as the rest of it.

- Also note the wardrobe malfunction on the goddess of big knockers at the bottom.

- The whole section is about 7 inches high so the small details are very small.

The skull might be a lions, as that would be a fit symbol for an emperor? Must have been some really cool boots, anyhow - the young lady seems very interested in them!

By the way: I don't think that the voluptouos lady is a Goddess. Her posture looks more like a servants - she is almost run over by the horse. And maybee she even is coming with offerings to the riding guy - isn't it food she carries in her dress?
