*A:M User* Roger Posted September 8, 2017 *A:M User* Share Posted September 8, 2017 This came up in one of the last Live Answer Times, it turns out there is actually a public domain implementation of the Renderman standard: http://gman-toolkit.sourceforge.net/ I would imagine that some fiddling would be needed to get it going. Admin Rodney Posted September 9, 2017 Admin Share Posted September 9, 2017 I'm pretty sure that project hasn't been updated since the early 2000s. Edit: Looks like 2001 from the documentation. The last update to SourceForge appears to be 2013-02-19. This may be what the RIB plugin for A:M was based on but... not sure. Pixar did recently (earlier this year) release their non-commericial Renderman. That reportedly has been ported to Blender and such. I rendered Rabbit (exported as OBJ as I recall) using the command line of the non-commericial release so it's definitely possible.
nemyax
This project is GPL-licensed, meaning very definitely not public domain. So it's just another open-source RenderMan, of which there have been a few (BMRT, Aqsis, Pixie and others). They are all dead, but none as long dead as this one. Sorry guess I should have dug a little deeper. I had remembered BMRT which was free for hobbyist use but BMRT has been dead for ages too.
