Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted March 25, 2004 Hash Fellow Posted March 25, 2004 Last night's topic for the four-hour Animation Showdown was "Dive!" Our character had to dive into a pool. I found this one quite grueling. It's not much but at least he got off! See it on my Showdown page (QT Sorenson 3 - 148K) Quote
ZachBG Posted March 26, 2004 Posted March 26, 2004 That was a tough one, but I thought yours turned out particularly well--it was one of the few that actually got gravity correct. Zach Quote
Parlo Posted March 26, 2004 Posted March 26, 2004 Cool dive! I think you probably already know where it could be polished... The weight in the second bounce isn't quite there for me... it feels like the diving board should bend more before he dives. Quote
jfirestine Posted March 26, 2004 Posted March 26, 2004 Where are these animation competitions? I would like to try some, they sound fun. Thanks Quote
ZachBG Posted March 26, 2004 Posted March 26, 2004 They're at: http://www.digitalrendering.com/forum/foru...lay.php?fid=112 but you'll need to create a (free) account before you can play. Hope to see you there! The animation showdowns are every Wednesday and modeling showdowns are (I think) on Sundays. Zach Quote

Like most of these things I spent so much time figuring out the mechanics of how this action happens that I just barely get it working and never get around to adding the "exaggeration" part of it. I really wanted to do more with the springboard. I should have started him farther back so the first hop could more plausibly land with more force on the board, deflecting it more, giving more opportunity for squash&stretch. Also, I should have had his first anticipation movement go down instead of back. I'd have to experiment much more with this to find the right union of "cartoon hangtime" and "real physics hangtime" Quote Where are these animation competitions?
