Admin Rodney Posted May 9, 2013 Admin Share Posted May 9, 2013 Nice one! There is a very serious lesson in Center(s) of Gravity in that one. Riggers take note... As long as the CG(s) must go up first (and therefore cannot go any further downward first) the object will maintain its equilibrium. To gain some insight into how her performance relates to science a bit more than to concentration (patience might be a better word?) the following lecture is well worth watching: q9yUj7x0d84 There are a lot of other videos related to science and animation (and specifically to balance and weight... and Center of Gravity) at http://www.animationphysics.com/ I love the finale of her show where she demonstrates what such a small change upon the Center of Gravity as lifting a feather can produce. I confess that I don't understand all that is going on there... I assume she is removing the feather in a deliberate way so as to allow lift from the next object rather than have it continue to maintain it's equilibrium (easy enough to do with a group of precariously perched shapes ready to yield to gravity). As the camera cuts away very close to this moment we'd have to study that further. My point here is that I believe she could have removed the feather in such a way as to keep the other objects in place without falling. Likewise, she could probably (that is to say with a high probability... scientifically even) remove each item in the same order she added them in the first place while maintaining the rest of the structure. I guess that would be for a longer show? Note her use of intentional hesitation to prolong the audience's sense of anticipation just before removing the feather. Nice touch. She's a very talented performer and entertainer.
