Admin Rodney Posted October 2, 2011 Admin Share Posted October 2, 2011 I don't know if this is still open for takers or not but... A bold experiment in distributed education, "Introduction to Artificial Intelligence" will be offered free and online to students worldwide from October 10th to December 18th 2011. The course will include feedback on progress and a statement of accomplishment. Taught by Sebastian Thrun and Peter Norvig, the curriculum draws from that used in Stanford's introductory Artificial Intelligence course. The instructors will offer similar materials, assignments, and exams. According to the intro video two weeks after the announcement 56K people signed up for the Introductory Class.* http://www.ai-class.com/ While the obvious use to most in the graphics world might be for use with gaming, such courses might just change the way you look at everything. Regarding the instructors: Peter Norvig and Sebastian Thrun took over CS221 from Professor Andrew Y. Ng in 2010. Dr. Peter Norvig is author of the celebrated textbook Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach. He is also Director of Research at Google. Dr. Thrun is well known for his work on robotics and self-driving cars (his team won the DARPA Grand Challenge). Thrun is a research professor at Stanford and a Google Fellow. He is one of the youngest individuals ever elected into the National Academy of Engineering. I like what some of these Universities are doing and there is no lack of things that can be learned these days. MIT's open courseware is a favorite. *How they will provide feedback to 56K (for free) is anybody's guess.
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted October 2, 2011 Hash Fellow Share Posted October 2, 2011 With 56K enrolled I'm presuming there will be robots with red pencils grading your exams.
