Walltest

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I am trying to make a light shine out of a window in a wall.

I made a test with two wallsides each normals sticking outwards and was expecting that the light couldn`t pass through,

but it does.

Here is my test so far.

What am I doing possibly wrong here?

Thanks for your help.

not sure if this is what you are looking for

but tis is one way

try this for starters

add a rim light and turn off the one thats on in the cho

add volumetric s to the new light

adjust to wall (do not pass the light threw the wall only the beam)

you can change it to any light after you set it

and turn on any lights you want back on

Hi Jimd,

Thanks for your answer,

but I fear, I don`t quite understand you...

What do you mean by:

adjust to wall (do not pass the light threw the wall only the beam)

How exactly do I make the wall not penetrateable for the light?

In my model I made do wall pieces each normal pointing to the outsidedirection.

But that alone doesn`t seem to work???

Hi Jimd,

Thanks a lot for your tut.

When further investigating, I found its the setting of the lightbulb to volumetric and lensflare that makes the wall loose its opacity.

The first pic is a bulb with default seting, the second with volumetric and the third with lensflare.

Any workaround for that wall regaining its opacity with these settings?

trough the hole.

Maybe it already does, though? I cant really tell from what I see. I would expect the wall more like in the first picture

without volumetric and lensflare though.

I rendered two pictures with darkness set to 100. No big difference, is it?

yes i think you do need to close it up

or reduce the size of the of your light with the width and falloff

your filling up the whole area with light

and you do not need volumetric on your light unless you want it

here is a light shining on a wall and not passing thru it. How is this not what you are trying to do?

Activate lensflairs and position them behind the wall and see, if they are not shining through.

See you

Volumetric is turned on for the light.

With volumetric ON and Flare ON the flare will show thru the wall. That may be a bug but I'm not sure.

If Volumteric is OFF the flare will not show thru the wall and there won't be a volumetric haze making it look like light is leaking thru the window.

If you need a volumetric light to shine thru a window, use a kleig light.
