*A:M User* Roger Posted January 12, 2011 *A:M User* Share Posted January 12, 2011 Hello, My 24" lcd crapped out on me and I'm looking to replace it. Anyone have any recommendations? I do not want to spend more than $200 - I realize I may need to get a smaller screen. I saw some nice Asus and Viewsonic screens for that much. Also AOC but have never heard of them. *A:M User* Roger Posted January 12, 2011 Author *A:M User* Share Posted January 12, 2011 Also, assuming it is outside the warranty period ( I was maybe going to get it fixed and use it as a backup or dual monitor setup but don't want to be without an external display for the 6-8 weeks it will probably take to get it fixed and shipped back) any ideas what to do with a busted lcd? Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted January 12, 2011 Hash Fellow Share Posted January 12, 2011 I don't know what the repair-ability of LCDs is. I suspect the most fixable element is the backlight. but you should be able to find many 24" candidates on ebay my sense is that everything reasonably recent has converged to about the same image quality so i'd be inclined to shop on price. pixelplucker
Samsung has good pricing and excellent quality, a 22" might do the trick for you. I've had excellent luck with their monitors for years.
*A:M User* Roger Posted January 12, 2011 Author *A:M User* Share Posted January 12, 2011 Yeah I'm thinking a 22" might work. I don't want anything smaller than that, though - it would be hard going down to say a 19" or 20" widescreen after getting used to the display I have now. Wish I had gotten the damn extended warranty - almost never fails, you don't get it and then whatever it is breaks but you do get it and you never use it. Guess thats just the way of the universe. *A:M User* Roger Posted January 12, 2011 Author *A:M User* Share Posted January 12, 2011 Well - good news and bad news - its still under warranty, but not for the panel - so to replace the panel would be $125 but the rep I spoke with said she could cut me a discount, maybe $50. So, $75 for a new panel and maybe 25 or so to ship it to them. Which doesn't sound too bad. Leaves me without a monitor for 2 or 3 weeks though. Problem now is, I have to locate the receipt to confirm the date of purchase. And I'm pretty sure I don't have that. I *might* be able to get it from the brick and mortar store I bought it from, but only if they keep records for a lengthy period. I think I used their store credit card to buy it. Maybe I'll get lucky, and they'll have a receipt of some type I can use.
