jakerupert Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Hi all, Must be an easy question for the masters but I am somehow stuck. I want to create an on/off pose, where I can change the surfacecolor or material lets say from white to black or from none to metal and maybe a decal to show / dont show. and cant seem to find a way to achieve this. Any hints, step by step tutorials help? Quote
Fuchur Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Totally easy, have a look at this little video... -> Tutorial: Animate Decal-Image or Color by Pose (about 4 MB, use Quicktime or VLC to view) Most important: Use the Relationship-Action and the Show More Than Driver-Button! If you want to blend different images, use the same technik as in the video to blend between both. See you *Fuchur* PS: Don't try to change shaders with this method... that will very likley result in a crash of A:M. Everything else should be changeable. Quote

Fuchur Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 No... materials can easily be changed. Just the surface-options "Diffuse Render Shader", "Ambiance Render Shader" and "Specular Render Shader" (last entries under any Surface-Properties) shouldnt be changed. At least not to another shader. Shader-attributes arent that critical, just the shader itself. I dont think there are many people who do use the shader-attributes at all so... Most seem to be happy with the Standard-Shader (I would say it is a special kind of Phong-Shader, but I dont know exactly). *Fuchur* Quote
jakerupert Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 >No... materials can easily be changed. But what I intend to do is: Have a group with a color and then add a goldmaterial in the pose. Any help, how this can be done? Quote
jakerupert Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 Tried the following: Made one group and dragged a gold-material to it, then made another new group with a surface-color underneath that goldmaterialgroup (which means its actually on top of that group) so that only that surfacecolor is visible then made a new pose percentage , where I put the surface color in the group ontop to "not set" Expecting that this would make the underlying group with the gold visible. Doesn`t seem to work that way obviously. Any other ideas? Quote

Any help, how this can be done? There are several different possibilities to archieve that depending on which version you own. You could do it with a baked texture which could than be animated like I showed you before. For that use "Surface-Baking" with your material applied, delete the material and blend the texture to the base-color. However this isnt the best way to archieve such a thing but it would work out. 3 other possibilities are discussed in this little tutorial-video I am doing here. Sorry for the bad english... and the bad audioquality sometimes. It is because my computer is old (10 min, about 24 MB, download is zipped, H264 mp4 - needs VLC or Quicktime to be viewed) See you *Fuchur* Quote
jakerupert Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 Hi Fuchur, Excellent Tut, really invaluable for me!!! Solved all my problems so far. Just had do do it the otherway round. Aplied the goldmaterial first and then changed its settings in the pose to the desired flat color. The otherway it would have had to insert all the goldsettingvalues by hand. Thanks again a lot Fuchur!!! ake Quote
