Import AVI error

I am having an issue when I attempt to either import or open an AVI 15 second clip that I created with Windows Movie Maker:

 

Error with AVI file.

The file does not contain a video stream.

 

Any basic rules or suggestions to start off with?

What kind of compression is on the AVI? Maybe another compression will work for you. Have you tried any other AVI's?

I haven't tried AVIs for a while, but when I did, it balked at a DV type 1 AVI, but the same movie uncompressed was fine. If you're using a file captured from a DV camera by firewire, try converting it to Type 2 using one of the many free converters out there (such as the one by Paul Glagla).

I wouldnt use AVIs in A:M... if you have the possibility use a image-sequence or convert you videofiles to a image-squence (for example *.tgas)

Thanks...Are there any recommended coverting tools for and AVI to TGA that are free or low cost?

I found a free program here that says it can do the job. Quicktime Pro can do the conversion as well, it's around $30.
