Background still images or anims

I cannot figure out how to put a still image or AVI in the background of my character animation. I want to do my digital sets in LightWave 9.3 and then bring them into a Hash scene for compositing.

 

There's an older tutorial located here that might help...I think it would still work the same, I haven't messed with layers in quite a while.

 

There is also this tutorial that might help.

 

I'm sure others will mention tutorials besides those...hope these help.

I am extremely grateful for your assistance. I'll let you know if this gives us the look we a trying to create. Thanks a bunch for such a quick and informative response.
