Crawdad

Recommended Posts

here's a little animation I put up on AWfilms for kicks. It's the first project I've done with AW. I'm a 3D guy for some years now, but mainly polys. I'm really starting to like working with the splines.

I know this isn't all that great, but I wanted to jump in and get my feet wet. Thought I'd see what advice or critique I could get from you guys.

Thanks,

That's a fine first jump in!

-Where's the background in the first shot?

-The difference in camera view between the first shot and second shot is so slight that it's almost a jump cut.

-I like the blue flames

-Nice steam effect. It has a jump in it. Maybe that's from rendering it in two parts. Some turbulence might make even more steamy.

-The lipsynch seem to be working well.

-The arm waving is rather generic acting, but for a first time out I have no business complaining.

Are the antennae keyframed or a dynamic constraint? They seem to react sometimes and freeze at other times.

There's more working here than not working. I think you should be pleased.

yeah, I just tossed that first scene with the stove and the steam in at the end. The background is just a shot of my own kitchen.

No the antenna were not set up with dynamics. They should have been. I need to do some work to learn the dynamics systems of AW. I wasn't super pleased with all the motion, but that's what I get for such a rushed project. All in all, the things that are bad really taught me a lot about the program.

you're right about the steam. some distortion would have gone along way. And I needed a background in the first shot. It looks odd to me now that the first scene is so different.

All in all it's pretty sloppy (being that hindsight is 20x20) , but a good learning experience.

Why..., if he were my crawdaddy, I'd...,

What would you do Daddy?

I'd cover my crawdad in Cajun sauce and

eat 'im, til' the cows came home.

(sung ala Mothers of Invention)

seriously..., I enjoyed it. It brought a smile and a chuckle. Along with the animation/film refinements you mentioned, some additional sound fx (clanging pot lid, flames, etc.) would be good.
