  1. It appears there will be no 128 export in V18 due to some logical legitimate reason.

Not sure what solutions are out there. Lots of work arounds none of them easy.

    http://cloud.netfabb.com/

Is great for fixing the problems with the STL files that AM spits out. Unfortunately it does not work for me when I upload stl that have been exported higher than 64.

And 64 is way to low of a resolution for most prints.

You could model in more splines as a work around but that is a headache and not really practical.

You could download the free netfabb basic software and give that a go but I have not had success with it in terms of fixing 256 exported stl files.

To be fair many programs spit out stl files with problems, its kind of a known issue.

  2. Jason, that design will probably have a lot of stress on the the half that needs to be snapped to the back half that is mounted to the wall. I believe that if the cube was made the same way as the cylinder then it would be more stable on the wall than the current model. The cube should be refilled from the top. To mount it you should make 3 holes in the back with slots to slide the cube to the wall. His original cube had a great locking latch and that should be incorporated in the top part of the cube.

Thanks for these advice. I have a finished product now that I am happy with.

  3. Ok

All I want is for you to take the top half circles and make them perfectly round.

I made this model myself only because I am impatient. Thank you to the people that offered to help you can join in this too if you wish. I am really looking for speed on this

I will send a check or Paypal $25.00 plus a print of the model and a 1 month supply of the smart phone, tablet cleaning wipes.

I need all the rings at the top to be perfectly round. Do what ever you have to do. Just remember the dimensions really need to stay close to what they are to properly hug the tube which goes inside.

I will pay the 25 immediately when you send me the model. First come first serve.

If you can make it pretty close to "looking perfect" again just ALL the top rim half circles, than go for it.

I feel to do it right you will need to delete the ones I have and re extrude then reassemble using the original as a guide.

  4. Do we have any type of measuring tape feature in am aside from Guides and grids.

In other programs you can draw a line between 2 points to measure, thats kind of what im looking for.

  5. Hi Folks

I am a V18 tester. Do we have a spot on the forum where we can talk about new features with V18 in terms of testing?

I noticed questions I brought up about V18 are now password protected. Where do I find the password?

My forum password does not work.

  6. Hi Everyone Will and another person not sure who they are have offered to help. Will is not interested in using AM. Thats fine. And I plan to use his work but it got me thinking. Does anyone want to try to make this in AM?

Its a great way to show off and Test V18

I will give you a free 2 year supply of the products.

Please watch the videos BOTH videos very important.

All you need is attached and in the videos.

If I get 10 people who make something wonderful thats great I owe all of you a 2 year supply.

Also maybe if we have 3- 5 people playing with this project we can divide the tasks.

Attached are scans of the tube.

Attached is the project with models.

What I need in no particular order, each person could work on one of these.

model in Notch for the blue lid living hinge

model in Ledge so it seats properly where the 2 sides meat

    make hinge flush

model in bowl shaped seat for tube to rest in.

Cool looking, robust and functional Latch on both left and right side to lock the door shut. Not too fancy Make it functional. refer to videos

3 holes in back for screws

0.5mm indentation for sticker 3m strips

Classy sleek looking lip for top of cube where tube presses

    Notes:

Please do not change the basic workings or sizing of the hinge other than to make it flush and look classy with the sides. I have done a bunch of tests with the 3d printing to get the print and structural integrity right.

Normals must always be facing correctly, please model with showing back facing ploys off.

If you have a better idea about something, I grant you creative freedom. The best ideas should always come first.

As you can see much of my splining is crap except for the hinge. If you need to respline be my guest. Unfortunately any modeling , splining anomalies are only exacerbated in the printing process. This means if there is any weirdness in the AM model the print will be bad. Look closely at hooks, if a hook has a weirdness to it it will not print.

Download link to instructional videos. Please watch both.

  7. requirements:

a: Modeller, I have a large portion of the work done already. Looking for a seasoned modeler to handle the more complicated modeling of the spring loaded locking mechanism. Will provide drawings

    b:. mechanical

c: Approximate time frames (how soon do you need the help, how long might it last) ASAP a week, depends on how fast you are.

Email me jason AT GlossyCUBE dot com

Pay a 5 year supply of the product and 2 3D printed Cube Wall mounts.

The part you will be working on is a cube shaped wall mount. Relatively simple. This part will be 3D printed for customers.

The Actual product inside the wall mounted cube will be a tube of specially formulated biodegradable wipes.

The cube is intended to be mounted in your bathroom. The wipes will kill bacteria on your smart phone, laptop, or tablet without damaging the organic Anti Reflective coating on the screen.

Each tube will hold a one month supply for 1 person.

  8. I have to ask: What makes it a Mac if it's using Intel hardware and a Microsoft OS (other than it can also run a MacOS)? Does Apple do something special/unique to the Hardware config?

I'm assuming it's using integrated intel graphics?

 Yes , not the best way to do it.

There must be PC's with that config? Is this CPU just for Macs? or can any lapbook/laptop use?

 There are PC's with that cpu. Its not even a fast cpu as compared to the new XEON's

I'm trying to figure out what makes this system fast (other than ver17g 64 bit in conjunction with win7 64 being fast).

 The CPU Its very new.

What are the numbers for cache? (lots? fast?) memory? HD? (speed? SSD?), I understand this CPU can run at a burst mode up to 3.2ghz? (or something like that). Hyperthreading OFF? 4 Cores?

 Its got the fastest SSD in the world. Or close to it, because it connects via PCi not SATA. That does not impact AM to much though.

Does 17g use anything unique to this hardware config (eg: instruction set extensions? GPU?)

    Dont think so

This is the first time I would seriously consider getting a laptop to replace desktop PC.

 Macs are like getting a BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar,MCfarlin F1.

In other words having a mac is having the best. Its having the best experience with a computer.

Honda's are nice, They get you from A to B, Fords have improved to. But they are not the best.

The only reason I ever boot into PC land is to use AM.

If you are a person who has the extra cash for the best then you will not be disappointed with a mac. You do pay a lot for having the best.

But I simply do not have the headaches that the PC lovers have had to learn to live with for so many years. They have lived with those in convinces for so long they see them as normal computing.

I reboot and or shut down my macs about once every 2 weeks and its usually because I am going on a bussin ess meeting.

When I am in PC land and working on a project I often have to reboot multiple times a day. Windows is Buggy. Windows is not intuitive as mac.

I feel bad for people who believe that PC's are as good as a mac. AM is the only thing that makes be cross the line.

  10. Its confirmed I have verified the settings over and over again. I have rendered identical projects in multiple PC's and macs. And to be clear I always boot into windows and run AM on the PC side of my macs. I never use the mac side for AM as it is extremely unstable.

So does my computer hold the record so far?

1:55 ???? Has anyone gotten a better time?

    I am using AM V17g

You can compare my rendered image to yours if you wish. However before crying foul I have noticed that the renders have always been slightly different from version to version. I believe I even showed evidence of this earlier in the thread.

  11. I just got the new 2013 11 inch macbook air an ran the bench test.

This cant be right. it rendered it in 1:57

I did upgrade to the fastest processor.

Robert can you post screen grabs of the correct render settings for output. I find it hard to believe this tiny computer that fits into an envelope renders 4 minutes faster than my mac pro tower with 8 3GHZ Xeon processors.

In short yes. All macs can run all versions of windows natively. In fact my best experience with windows has always been on a mac.
