  1. There is no average patch count for models. Everyone has their own style and detail level of modeling. The more detail, the higher the patch count. Take a look at the models in your Library file to get an idea. Also, the better you get at modeling, the lower the patch count will get.

  2. I had two license files in V15h, copied them to the V15i directory and was able to open AM again. Thanks Rob. Now the question is which version did I install? The boot screen and about screen say 15h. From the above discussion, I can't figure out what's going on?

  3. I downloaded V15i and wanted to run it, but it gave me the dreaded NEED ACTIVATION code. I thought I wouldn't have to jump through that hoop anymore when Jason tied AM to my computer ID? Why me? How do I fix this now?

  4. Sounds like you already have the Hardware bug. Long ago when I first joined here, there were many discussions about hardware and AM speed. I seem to recall that a more expensive graphics card did not improve AM's performance over an average card. A faster system, sure, but not just a super dooper graphics card. It may be different now, but I don't think so. My card is a GeForce 7950 GT. I use it mainly to drive both of my 1920x1200 monitors.

But again, I think your problem lies elsewhere. Did you check the main problem areas we outlined for you above? If so, why don't you put your model in a zip file and post it here to see if anyone else can duplicate the issue and come up with a solution?

  5. Two other things besides what Rob mentioned come to mind. First, if you have mirror mode enabled, that will slow things down - happy face with blue vertical hash button. Second, disable "show decals" when you are modeling - it's the red button with the white star on it, or simply press control "d".

  6. I change stuff in my system all the time, drives, video cards, etc. Running into the same problem of "this serial number..." whenever I made changes got old, so I contacted support. They were able to bind the Hash subscription to my machine, no matter how much I changed the components. I don't remember the walkthrough, but contact support and they will help you.

I looked for my three toed tutorial and found it, but it's long and boring since it's one of my first tutorials ever from a long time ago. I'll remake it and post it on Youtube soon. It will help you not only with the foot, but with overall modeling and smooth skin. I had a recent hard drive crash on me, so I have to reinstall my screen cap software among other things. It looks like you've been pretty patient about finishing this model anyway ;)

  8. This was the case with the Millennium Falcon. The scales were so far off that no one has been able to make it fit into a model. In the ship everyone runs around upright with no problem in corridors that circumnavigate the ship, yet the ship is saucer shaped and not very thick. This does not leave any headroom at all among many other inconsistencies. The final design of the ship was a last minute decision which contributed to the scale problems. Maybe there will come a time when ships and such are first designed on a computer to scale before being used in a film? Similar problems with 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea's Nautilus. Like Al said, that's Hollywood for now.

  9. That's much better, but you can still take out two of the front bunch of three splines in the door. If they are part of the window post, make the window post a separate entity in the model. In a real bug, they are a separate entity also. Don't be afraid to have many separate entities in a model. If the real thing is made up of several parts, model them that way. In the beginning I thought I had to make everything out of one single mesh. That's not the correct way to model.

    Doing really great.
